Ive only been to DL twice, but many moons ago.
Does DL take a lot less planning? We are looking at going maybe next year.

In a word--yes.
You can make ADR's there, but they are usually only necessary for the most popular restaurants, like Blue Bayou and Carthay Circle. Instead of 180 days out you can only make them 60 days out and no credit card guarantee is required. Since free dining is never offered as part of a package at Disneyland (at least as of yet), there are more available tables for walk-ins.
Disneyland has not yet opted in to the Fastpass+/My Disney Experience/Magic Bands stuff and I hope they never do. As much Disney World is truly a "world", Disneyland is truly a "land"--a smaller, much more intimate experience. You can walk everywhere you need to go, which makes going back and forth between the parks, Downtown Disney and the hotels so much easier. They do have regular Fastpass and early entry for hotel guests, but the main key to avoiding crowds is knowing when the locals are most likely to be in the parks, since they make up a huge part of who Disneyland is marketed to.
Disneyland is a much more relaxed place to vacation these days than WDW, IMO.
Bump!!!
