We've been doing late August trips, but this time, due to other circumstances, it looks like we'd be going mid-August. How bad are the crowds? We found end of August crowds to be manageable. Thanks! :mickey:

If you get there after school has started you should be ok with the crowds. I like to go either at the end of August of the week of Labor day. Since you will be there before the food and wine festival the crowds should be lighter. Just watch for storms.
Hope this helps....:mickey:
I typically go in the last two weeks of August. Our trip last year was the most crowded August trip (14th to the 20th) I have ever experienced. Not sure why.
We're like you and are regular end-of-August visitors. On the years where we go a few days early, I find it gets quieter each day.
I don't think mid-August will be insane, but busier than end of the month, as people get a trip in before school starts.
I've always wanted to go right AFTER labour day, seems to be quiet then. :)
We spent Aug 18-23 at Disney last year and loved it. I kept asking "where are all the people?!". The weather ended up being perfect for us. Epcot was not crowded at all. I would love to go back that week.
When the kids were little and it wasn't a big deal to take them out of school, we used to go after Labor Day. It was awesome! Very quiet. But, that was a long time ago, I'm sure it's not as quiet as it was, but it's probably way better than August.
So good to know!! Thank you! I think we're going to be able to make our original end of August plan work... maybe. But, hopefully if we can't we have an experience similar to yours.
We've gone in August twice recently based on our children's schedules. Aside from being melt your brain hot during the day, the crowds generally are not too bad. Between southern schools that go back early and northern schools where pre-Labor Day fall sports can hold some families back, we have found that the crowds haven't been that bad. We tend to manage our days around the heat by going to parks early and late and spending down time by the pool mid-day. Of course, there is no slow time at WDW anymore, but if you can handle the heat then I'd say go for it!
Thanks Baldburke! We're going for it! We're actually going to end up being there for the last week of August and the partial first week of Sept. Back before Labor Day. Hopefully that will not be too bad.
