    Smile Remember These?

Some people & I have been talking about "old" things. Things we had or remember from our childhood, that is no longer around or popular.

Do you remember Ditto Paper? Before Xerox copy machines were in schools. Remember the smell?

Do you remember using special paper for Math?

How about the plastic Tupperware Salt & Pepper shakers?

Huge wooden Fork, Knife and/or Spoon hanging on a wall?

What about metal ice trays with the handle to get the ice cubes out?

    What do you remember?
So many ideas, so little time. I need a part-time job to support my craft habit.

OMG! I thought we were the only ones with those giant utensils, lol.

How about wringer washing machines? You know the ones where you had to "feed" the clothes between the rollers to squeeze out the excess water? My neighbor had one, I used to beg her to let me help her.

And how about those mowers that you had to push to make the blades turn? No engines or motors on those things!

We have one of those now. Bought it new just a couple of years ago. They're very environmentally friendly.

Question: Why would drinking from a hose cause an incident? Am I missing something? Heck, if I'm outside working, I have been known to drink from the hose.
And how about those mowers that you had to push to make the blades turn? No engines or motors on those things!
OMG - my mom had one in the mid 1970s and she had an acre of land. It took her forever to mow the yard. Eventually she got the electric one with the mile long extension cord, then she graduated to the gas mowers.

How about the plastic on the furniture including keeping the plastic on the lamp shades.

And not that long ago...but when the TV was one of the biggest (and heaviest) pieces of furniture in the living room.

And I earned a lot of money RAKING our RUG. Yes the lime green shag rug.

Uh, they still make those - most of my family has them. In fact, I think I'm the only one who doesn't!

My neighbor has one of these. It works pretty well too. I'll bet with the price of gas going up like it is, we'll be seeing more of these around.

The idea is that you will pick up some kind of cancer or other disease by drinking from the hose. It is just another of those "sanitation" things that is going on in the world. In my humble opinion I think there is too much concern about never getting contaminated by anything.

Mon chi-chi Mon chi-chi oh so soft and cuddly. I never had one but I remember the commercial. I had a blast from the past when I went to the bank the other day. They had the real Charms lollipops. Not blow pops but the round thick charms pops.

I loved my Kelso Earth Shoes - I wore them all through high school.

Bean bag chairs! My parents threw great parties and it was fun to watch the "adults" try to get out of the chairs when they had too much to drink.

This post reminded me of an E-mail I received recently from a friend luckily I still had it saved to share Enjoy

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we
rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took
    hitchhiking.

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE
    actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but
    we weren't overweight because
    WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back
    when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down
the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the
bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no
99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell
phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat
rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no
    lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays,
made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang
the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't
had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They
    actually sided with the law!
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers
    and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned
    HOW TO
    DEAL WITH IT ALL!

And YOU are one of them! CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as
kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good.
and while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

JPL: That was awesome and very true. Our generation if our parents were home and we were up the street, they reached us by yelling at the top of their lungs for us to come home. I grew up on a dead end street and all of the kids played either at someone's house or in the street. Usually around 5-6pm everyone's names would be called out for dinner. In the Summers we (kids) would all start playing at 9am, eat lunch at someone's house, go home for dinner (with the help of mom's voice) after dinner, went back out until 9pm. We didn't go home when the street lights came on, we stayed out until our bed time. IT WAS GREAT!!!

Yes, we ate junk food, but we were outside all day. Now a days, kids don't have imaginations - they don't know how to entertain themselves. Heck, I use to build forts either in my room, the basement or the backyard (and I'm a girl)

How about - metal rollerskates that tied to your sneakers.

Big Wheels with & without a brake, Metal foot pedal cars, wooden tractors.

How about the wooden Grimace merry go round in the McDonald's play ground.
So many ideas, so little time. I need a part-time job to support my craft habit.

Yes, I remember ditto paper. My Dad used to type his tests out on them (on a manual typewriter) and them hand crank out copies on a machine in the school office.

How about this one; watching TV without a remote and getting up to change the channel. I remember the first TV we got with a remote.
