Default Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough Reopens

    25 November 2008

Walkthrough Attraction In Sleeping Beauty Castle Reopens In Time For Thanksgiving Holiday At Disneyland

The interior of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland, long closed to guests, will "reawaken" in time for Thanksgiving. A vibrant new version of the classic walkthrough attraction features colorful scenes of Aurora, her gallant prince, the evil Maleficent and other characters from the beloved fairy tale film.

The attraction is scheduled to open at 5 p.m. Wednesday, kicking off the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

This revived Sleeping Beauty Castle "show" differs from the window-display dioramas which could be seen in the castle during the 1980s and '90s. It takes its inspiration from the unique style of the original Disneyland castle walkthrough attraction of 1957, co-designed by animation art director and color stylist Eyvind Earle, who was credited with giving the motion picture "Sleeping Beauty" its distinctive and colorful look of storybook illustrations in medieval style.

Enhanced with new scenes and special-effects magic, the re-Imagineered attraction employs technology not available in the 1950s to tell the story of Sleeping Beauty, including the magic of good fairies Flora, Fauna and Merryweather, and the more sinister spells of the evil Maleficent.

For the first time, guests who are unable to climb stairs or navigate the passageways of the Castle will be able to experience the walkthrough "virtually" in a special room on the ground floor of the Castle.

    to INTERCOT!

Thanks or posting, it's good to hear, and i figured it would be really crowded since the walk through has been closed since 9/11.

(by the way ... using all caps is considered SHOUTING. You'll get the hang of the posting thing! Have fun and see you on the boards!)

I went through the castle on Friday night and the wait was not long at all. I think I waited less then 10 minutes. The CM at the front was spacing people/groups out so that not too many would enter at one time. It was not hot insde at all, and not very crowded either, even though the park was very busy Friday night.

I entered in the evening and many people were watching the holiday parade, so maybe that had something to do with both the temperature and how busy it was inside.

I was able to stay at windows for a little while and take pictures without feeling like I was holding things up. Certainly something to see for anyone planning a visit.

I'm not sure I had ever walked through the castle, maybe when I was younger, and just don't remember. I loved the scenes and the new effects, I guess done along the same line as the animation we see in the Nemo subs.

My wife and I were able to walk through twice in a row a few evenings ago -- with no crowds. The first time it seemed to be "rebooting" or something, since there was no music or special effects. We were watching the prince storm the castle when suddenly the sky lit up with a PANASONIC logo.

When we realized we had been missing some elements we walked through it again with the music and all the graphics. Amazing!!

Ian, be prepared for a LONG line on a Sunday. The line moves very slowly too, and once you're inside, it's single file and you can't exit or turn around (it's sort of claustrophobic in there). It could potentially take up to 20 min to walk through. Just so you are aware. It is cool, though. Try to do it as early in the morning as possible. The CM's do a good job of spacing people out and letting in only a certain number of people at a time, so that is why the line is longer outside.

Really? I went through on Sunday 12/28 at noon and there was no line, no wait or anything.

I was there on Sunday 1/4 and it was INSANITY. It was the last day of the Holiday stuff, though, so in general, the DLR was crazy crowded.

Ian is planning his visit over President's Day Weekend. Thus, the warning...
