    Default Ponchos

We plan on bringing a small backpack with us to the parks. My sister has a few ponchos from walmart that we will take with us. My question is, should we watch the weather and only bring the ponchos if it says there will be rain or just bring them anyway? I rather lighten the load, but I don't want to be drenched rats unexpectantly every day. What do you do?

We always bring ponchos with us when we visit WDW as well. I usually watch the weather report and only bring them into the parks if it looks like it's going to rain. We usually rent a locker for the day and put the kids extra clothes, ponchos, etc in there so as to lighten the load in our backpack and stroller.

Hope this helps!! Have a great trip!!

I have four of the $1 ponchos that I carry in my fanny pack all the time when we are at WDW. They are light and don't take up much room. And with the weathermen being so reliable (wink, wink), you never know when a afternoon thunderstorm might pop up unexpectedly. So I always follow the boy scout motto - Be Prepared!

I do the same as Toughbug--I purchased a bunch of cheapy ponchos from the dollar store and just keep a few in the backpack at all times. Last year we didn't need them at all--I think there are 11 ponchos in my Disney suitcase, ready for this September!

Ponchos can be great, but I have learned to like the tiny umbrellas- When wearing a poncho in the florida heat I get wet from the heat, but under an umbrella, I am not.

As to bringing them- part of that would depend on the time of year, Hotter weather months could mean surprise showers.
I would rather have them than not...

I don't know if you're taking a stroller or not...but we would always keep the ponchos in the mesh bag on the umbrella stroller - that way we were always prepared without overloading our backpack.

We watch the weather, if it looks like rain we bring umbrellas. I hang them from the strap on my cross body bag.

We bring a stroller so we have extra storage that we are not carrying on our person. I always bring ponchos and umbrellas. They don't take up much space and you never know.

We usually carry ours in our backpack - we still have the yellow disney ponchos. Now we are the ones that stand out You never know about those pop up showers.
When we go when it is less crowded we take a small travel umbrella. I prefer the umbrella over ponchos but only use it when when crowds are low. I feel it is easier to manuever the umbrella with less people around - no eye pocking .

I agree. I like the umbrella's much better than the poncho's. We have so many of those umbrellas now. You'd think we would remember to take them with us.

I'm just glad Disney got rid of the yellow poncho's. I can remember a few times looking for my girls and panicking because all I could see was a sea of yellow. Luckily, they were right beside me.

I say bring the ponchos ... especially in the summer and hurricane seasons. I also keep ponchos from previous trips to bring to the parks. I remember on my last visit heading from my hotel and seeing blue sky and white clouds, and before I could get off the bus and to the park it was raining ... Unfortunately I had left my poncho at the hotel, so I had to buy another one.

I like the ponchos over umbrellas because if there is any wind, the umbrellas don't do much good.

Take the poncho along and leave umbellas at home. Buy the cheap ones as they do not take up that much room. Then throw them away when you are packing up to return home.
