    Default Las Vegas, NV

Fiance and I will be in Las Vegas at the end of June and are looking for suggestions of things to do. We are not really the clubbing and gambling types, so we're looking for some other ideas and sight seeing. Thanks for any help!

There are SOOO many great restaurants and shows ... Lion King opened at one of the casinos and the show has gotten great reviews as they completely re-did the theater to get the best show experience.

For sightseeing, there's not all that much in Vegas, but you can go by Hoover Dam, which is actually cool ... or you can drive to the Grand Canyon which is about 3-4 hours, but also a great trip. If you have the $$ you can do helicopter tours of both the Vegas Strip at night ... or take a Helicopter to the Canyon.

You need to see the cirque du solei.....Beatles LOVE! at the Mirage.......it was amazing. Check around for discount tickets ...there are plenty out there OR check with your hotel when you arrive. THey were practically giving them away when we were there. 2 for 1......its a great show!

There is so much to do that is not clubing or gambling. Go see Sigfried & Roy's Secret Garden at The Mirage. You need to see the fountains at The Belliago. Then there is the nightly pirate show outside of Treasure Island. The pelicans at The Flamingo. The lion at MGM Grand. Check out one of the tour books they give out or you can check out stuff online. I know Lion King is great at Mandalay Bay. They also have a shark exhibit there. You will find so much to do. Just remember to drink lots of water when there in June. It can be very hot and dry. You can become very dehyderated quickly. Have a great time!!!!

We are really not gamblers and did not go to any clubs the last time we were in Vegas because we had our son with us. We were at the Grand Canyon for three days and in Vegas for seven days and had plenty to do in fact we didn't have time to do everything that was on our list.

Here's a short list of some of the things we did. The fountains at the Belliago, at the Mirage the Secret Garden & the white tigers, at Cesears the fountain shows, at Treasure Island the Battle of the Pirate Ship, at the Mandalay the aquarium, at MGM the lions & Rainforest Cafe, at the Luxor King Tut's Tome & a 3D movie and vitutal rides, at the Venetian the gondola ride & street performers.

There is also a huge (3 or 4 floors) M&M store on the strip with a really cute movie. We went to Hoover Dam which took all day. We rode around Red Rock Canyon. We went to an old western town called "Old Neveda" which was right outside of Red Rock. There is a ton of shopping. We saw two shows, Mystere at Treasure Island and the Knights Battle at Excalibur and both were very good. We also saw the light show in the old part of the strip.

For a nice lunch try the Lux at the Venetian. It is owned by the same company that owns the Cheesecake factory and the menu is very similar but the restaurant itself is a little more upscale. Prices there were good. The Venetian also has the best gelati. It is as good as you actually get in Italy. We had it every night

We stayed at the Venetian on our last visit to Vegas and it was the nicest hotel we have ever had. All rooms there are suites. The Mandalay could also be fun especially in June. They have a huge wave pool and lazy river.

My husband gambled one night for a few hours while my son and myself watched a movie in our room but that was it. I don't think you will have a problem with finding things to do.

If you'll have a car, there are actually several really nice day-trip sight-seeing things to do. The obvious one is the Grand Canyon. If you don't want to go that far, you can drive to Hoover Dam and Lake Meade - they have some fun daytime cruises on the lake, some of which will include food. I'd also highly recommend 2 amazing places to do some hiking - either Red Rock Canyon or Valley of Fire State Park. Both offer some amazing scenary. I'm sure you can Google both those locations for more info. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks everyone for the quick replies! It is still a ways off but this is what seems to draw my attention away from studying lol. (A little procrastination never hurt anyone, right?) And the clubbing and gambling is all I really hear from my cousins that are out there, so thats where that came from. Its nice to know we'll have lots of options.

Anyways, I really like the suggestions of shows, we'll definitely look for discount tickets since we're on a budget. And I love the hiking suggestions we always try to do one or two hikes whereever we go. We haven't decided on a hotel yet, as part of his trip is work based so we're trying to find a hotel to stay in the whole trip that will be around the price of his per diem for those days. We're also looking at Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. Lots will be happening between now and then so we'll see what we decide.

There is so much you can do that is not gambling. I go to Vegas every year and I am not a big gambler. I love just walking through the different hotels. Bellagio has the Conservatory, Mandalay Bay has the Shark Reef, Mirage has the Segfried and Roy's Secret Garden and so on. Plus there are the M&M store, Caesar's Forum Shops, Venetians Canal Shops... If you have a rental car you can take a drive out to Red Rock Canyon. It's beautiful out there and just a short drive from the Vegas strip. Next time we go I want to take the drive out to Mount Charleston (about 45 min drive).

The restaurants and shows in Vegas are plentiful. I've seen the Cirque show at TI Mystere. Loved it.

Hope you enjoy your trip to Vegas. We'll be going in Spetember for 9 nights.

Hi! We went to Vegas for the 1st time last year. While I like the slots, we are not club people.

We went to Phantom-this was pricey, but something I had always wanted to see, we really enjoyed it.

Old Vegas-Freemont Street Experience-is alot of fun. They have music, street vendors, and this is where the Vegas you are imagining comes from. My DH and I played Bingo-which was fun! We took the bus there, if you don't have a car-get a bus pass, you can get mulit-day bus passes for a good price.

We went to Hoover Dam, which I loved. I booked our package on Southwest.com, and booked our Hoover Dam package there as well. It wasn't too pricey, they will come pick you up from your hotel and take you to the Dam, there are different tours you can do. It was an absolutely beautiful day when we went-I hope to go the Grand Canyon soon.

It's neat just to walk down the strip and see all the Casino's, some of them are quite breathtaking. And in many there are free shows-like the Sirens at TI, the fountain show at Bellagio, etc.

I know at the Tropicanna they have Wayne Brady and "Let's Make A Deal" if you would be interested in that-I don't know what the tickets would be, but I'm sure you could find them online.

You will have a great time-without the clubs and gambling!

The Grand Canyon is a must or the Black Canyon river raft ( dont worry you dont go white water rafting its a 4 hour raft tour )
    The shows are abundant
Our favourites were Jersey Boys and Cirque de Soliels " O "
A nightime helicopter ride along the strip is also breath taking ...Have fun

I second the gondola ride and gelato at the Venetian, Hoover Dam and the Fremont Street Experience. My husband and I are not clubbers or gamblers either but we really enjoyed walking around all of the casinos/shops, especially Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Venetian, Caesar's Palace, Paris and Red Rock (where we stayed once...beautiful!)

A very cool, laid back place to kickback with a cocktail is the Fireside Lounge at the Peppermill Restaurant. Very loungey with an open fire pit...highly recommend.

We also really enjoyed the Ethel M Chocolate Factory tour located 5+ miles east of the strip. An unexpected bonus was a truly stunning botanical cactus garden on the property. I will definitely go back the next time I'm in Vegas!

A can't miss restaurant is the Hash House A Go Go where they serve "twisted farm food". They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and rather large portions. Another must do for us!

As someone mentioned earlier, be aware that it'll be VERY hot there. Expect upwards of 100 degrees - and very dry heat. You won't even realize you're sweating because it'll evaporate so fast so make sure to drink plenty of water. Especially if you're planning on doing any hiking. Certainly try to get it in before 10:00 in the morning.

The helecopter rides to the Grand Canyon are very much not worth it. I rafted down the Grand Canyon last June and our guide pointed out how far the helecopters come in for those tours, and it's not very far. You're not going to be very impressed (or as impressed as you should be) with the Canyon if that's all you see.

The drive to the Grand Canyon is at least four hours, probably more, but very much worth it. The drive itself is less than impressive, though.

    Default Vegas in the Heat

My husband gambles, but I don't-- and my favorite thing to do is to go to the SPA! All of the hotels have spas, and many of them offer use of a nice steam room/ plunge pool area with the cost of a treatment. I usually get something smallish done everyday so I can go to the pool or sightsee all morning, have lunch, then go to the spa for the afternoon.

A well worth it splurge is to rent a cabana for a day or half day. It is awesome pampering!

We took a float trip down the Colorado River- calm water. It was very nice. We saw mountain sheep and other wildlife and they stopped at a sandy beach for us to have a picnic lunch. Also the Grand Canyon is amazing. Shopping and dining is great, too. We saw Criss Angel Believe (show with magician Criss Angel and Cirque du Soliel at the Luxor) and we really liked that, but we are Criss Angel fans.

Not sure when you were leaving, sorry I have not been on this board in awhile, but a great day trip is Zion Canyon. It is about 2 maybe 2 1/2 hours to Springdale, Utah. It is a very small town, with a wonderful canyon drive and if you have a few hours be sure to hike The Narrows. If you are staying in Vegas the whole time, you probably wont want to press on, but if you are willing to spend a couple of nights out of Vegas, press on to Bryce Canyon. It is well worth the trip. We use Vegas as a jumping off point for Death Valley, Zion, Bryce and the Grand Canyon.

All of the suggestions posted eariler are wondeful, and you will have a great time w/o gambeling. We don't gamble, we are more outdoor people. Always wanted to grab a Cirque show, but always had so much fun playing outside never made it to a show.

    Have a great ime.
