Atlantis Resort in Bahamas

Has anyone been there before? How was it? It looks like a fun place but a bit pricey. I am thinking of maybe doing this for my Wife's 40th birthday in about a year and a half Oct 2011.

The food is very expensive.
We took the Disney cruise and stayed the day. Aqua-Adventure is fun for kids and adults of all ages.
My son stayed a week...He loved it!

my hubby and i were there for a week. Loved it. Food is very expensive but there was a dining plan that was established after our trip. It maybe worth it if its still there.
There is a place across the way ( a little shady) but they sell wine there/liquor that will be much cheaper if you buy your bottle there and drink before dinner instead of ordering a $40 or more bottle at dinner. (it just helps save money) We bought a bottle of wine for $13 there and the night before at dinner the same bottle of wine cost us $45.
The pools are great, the sea animals are great. Its a really great hotel.

My wife and I honeymooned there in April 08. We stayed at The Cove @ Atlantis. This part of the hotel is the newest and its all suites. The rooms and view were incredible. That being said, Atlantis has several different named buildings on its property, which are alot cheaper. You still get access to the pool complex (you need a wristband, and they do check). Its cheaper to buy somethings out in town and bring back to the room. We got room service and ate at some of thier smaller establishments. The one place we did eat at was Bobby Flays Mesa. It was good, but pricy. Overall, its great and we are looking at going back in April.

We've been there twice, and I think your statement about it seeming fun but pricey is right on. The resort is amazing. The accomodations, service, and weather can't be beat. But it is extremely expensive - they make Disney seem reasonable!

They do have many different levels of places to stay at Atlantis - some more expensive, some less. What I would recommend - plan the trip (it's definitely worth going), tuck away some extra money, understand it's going to be more expensive than most trips, and then go enjoy yourself. I bet your wife loves it.

I was looking at the Beach building, I think it was, which looks to be the cheapest, maybe because I think it's the farthest from most things but close to the beach which my wife would love, that it the one thing we need to make sure we do when going to Disney is spend at least a day at a beach. I think the price per night in Oct this years prices was around $290 per night. Her 40th b-day would be Oct 19th 2011 so not sure what prices would be then. I was think about going for 5 days 4 nights which would give 3 full days there. You guys think that would be enough with how pricey it is?
