NEW ROOM TYPES: Most Moderate Resorts, Animal Kingdom Lodge and Beach Club
Sorry if I missed a thread on this, but I thought I would let everyone know what I read yesterday.
Caribbean Beach Resort is the ONLY moderate resort where the room types remain the same as they have in years past.
Port Orleans Riverside and Coronado Springs have BOTH added a "Preferred Room" category. Just as with Caribbean Beach, this doesn't guarantee any sort of view, but rather that your room will be close to the main building. I didn't see this listed for the French Quarter. It may just have not been available for the dates I saw, or because the resort is so small, it may not be offered.
Port Orleans Riverside and Port Orleans French Quarter both have split the "water view" category. You can still book a Water View - which guarantees you'll see either the River or the pool. However, you can also book a guaranteed River view for slightly more.
Lastly, in the moderate category, Coronado Springs will now guarantee a view when you book a king bed. You can now book a water view king bed room or a preferred king bed room. This is in addition to just plain "King Bed", which I assume is a standard view.
Animal Kingdom Lodge has added "Arusha View". If you think of the Animal Kingdom Lodge as a horseshoe, the Arusha Savannah is the inside of the horsehoe. You can also book an Arusha View with bunk beds. Additionally - and I'm not sure how many this will affect, but there is now a separate one bedroom suite category listed as "standard view". If the suite is important, but the animals aren't, save some $$ and book the standard view one bedroom suite. It is on the club level.
The Beach Club has split its club level into standard view (I would assume this is parking lot, rooftops, etc....), garden view, deluxe room and lagoon view.
Hope that helps someone.

Preferred Room?
Since the new prices are out for next year, I was looking at some dates for POR and there are many views to choose from...There is standard, water, river and preferred...What would preferred be?

"Garden" is new. Probably so they can charge extra now for the better standard view rooms.

After staying at POR in a room far from everything I would gladly pay more to be guaranteed a room closer! I'm sure its making Disney extra profits but its also nice to know certain requests are locked in far a littler bit extra. When I'm traveling with Mom and her health conditions, extra peace of mind is well worth the money and since she is the room a lot at other resorts the guaranteed view is a nice bonus too. If its me and my sis, its not as important.

Thanks for the information. Quick question for AKL experts. Why would "Arusha View" be preferred over a regular Savannah view? Aren't all Savannah views the same - a view of a Savannah?

Yep. that is it. Many people were requesting it, and putting up a stink when they did not get it.
What Disney did was make sure that those who really want it, now get it. At a price.
Supply and Demand, simple supply and demand.

the email rec'd states
Preferred Room:
o These rooms will have two double beds, sleeping 4 guests (plus an infant in a crib) or 2 double beds and a trundle bed, sleeping 5 guests (plus an infant in a crib). These rooms should be located nearest to the front desk/food court/etc.
It did not list any specific buildings at this time.

Of course...Trundle rooms nearest to the main building...Why dont they just charge extra for the trundle bed while they are at it...You know how bad it is to have more than 4 in a family...It seems like its frowned upon...

Is every trundle bed room now preferred? I'm confused. I thought paying for preferred was simply an option for those looking for convenience of location. If you don't want to pay extra to be closer to things, does that mean you can't book a trundle room?

Actually, they used to charge $15 per night more for the trundle bed rooms!
This does not mean that all trundles are preferred. It means some of them are.

What Bldgs. are the preferred rooms in at CSR? Can you get preferred rooms with 2 beds or are preferred rooms ONLY kings?
-
The preferred buildings at CSR are TBD. Rumors are casitas 1, 2, 3 and maybe cabana 9a. Yes, you will be able to get all categories of rooms, not just king.

buzz2001,
When does this take effect ?
I booked a room at CSR several months ago for this December.
I requested Casitas 3 because of my wfie's health problems.
Thanks.

So how are they handling requests for a king bed AND a preferred location?

We had a trundle bed in AB far, far away from the main building. The way I read it is the AB buildings have two types of rooms - some with trundles and some without - and you are paying for location, not bedding options.

I think this clinches it: You now have to be a CPA to understand the Disney room rates.
