I think choosing a weekend is the safer bet - most people have weekends off from work.

How 'bout Saturday July 16 or Sunday July 17? We could celebrate Disneyland's birthday...

Alternatively, how about Saturday August 6 or Sunday August 7? This weekend is the week after the civic holiday weekend and a couple of weeks before the CNE opens (unless y'all want to do something at the CNE).

Those days would work for me. I am off those days.

Where would we want to go? The Island?

I was gonna mention CN Tower, the Island, or Rainforest Café (as others have mentioned)...

I haven't been to the Island in years - is there a place we could all hang out inside / under cover if the weather isn't that great?

I kinda figured OP would eventually show up in conversation... I worked there for a few years in the '90s! Definitely an option!

Alrighty - let's make it Saturday July 16. I'm guessing lunchtime / early afternoon would be a good time to meet?

What location should we choose - restaurant, mall, park? Some great ideas have already been mentioned - have y'all given this some thought?

For those of you wanting to make the most of your visit to Toronto (or are traveling with people who are not into Disney that much), here are a few events that are happening in Downtown Toronto on July 16...

    Concerts
    • Air Canada Centre - Taylor Swift (7pm)
    • Molson Amphitheatre - Jimmy Buffett (8pm)

    Sports
    • Rogers Centre (SkyDome) - Blue Jays vs NY Yankees (1pm)

    Shows
    • Canon Theatre - Billy Elliott (1:30pm & 7:30pm)
    • Princess of Wales Theatre - Hugh Jackman in Concert (2pm & 8pm)
    • Roundhouse Theatre - Railway Children (2pm & 7:30pm)
    • Royal Alexandra Theatre - Carrie Fisher's Wishful Drinking (2pm & 8pm)
    • CNE / Toronto Castle - Medieval Times (4:30pm & 7:30pm)

Places / attractions that operate daily include -
    • Ontario Place
    • CN Tower
    • Casa Loma
    • Hockey Hall of Fame
    • Yorkdale Mall
    • Eaton Centre
    • Toronto Islands
    • Harbourfront

Yea!!! I can't wait to put some faces to names of my favourite Intercotee's.

Now the hard part - what do we want to do? TinkRocks - do you have a preference?

I don't really have a preference - I think wherever we choose has to be family friendly 'cos I'm sure there will be a few families attending...

Choosing a restaurant would require reservations 'cos I know there'll be a few of us meeting, right? A restaurant doesn't depend on the weather, so is definitely an option. I'm sure if we chose a restaurant that they would reserve a room / section for us.

Ontario Place and Toronto (Centre?) Island have both been mentioned and are great suggestions. Of the two, I'd be inclined to go with Ontario Place. Admission is free, and there are a number of things to do if people wanted to explore... There are lakeside tents available (there may be a charge, but am not sure of the cost), and catering is available if we choose ($10 - $22 per person, depending on what catering package is chosen). I can make inquiries if OP is the designated location.

How many people will be able to attend on Sat. July 16?

OP could be good. There is a concert that night at the Ampitheatre, but during the day could be great.

What about somewhere like the Old Spagetti Factory? The place is HUGE, and usually not too busy during the day, so they might be willing to give us a whole area, and let us take our time.

I'm ok with the Old Spaghetti Factory, and am sure they'd have the space to accommodate a few of us. Parking may be an issue with a Jays game on that afternoon, but shouldn't be an issue if people are using TTC.

Rainforest Café (Yorkdale Mall) was mentioned before - parking wouldn't be an issue, but is not 'downtown.' The mall is accessible by TTC though. Malls tend to be a little busier on weekends, so, depending on numbers, I'm not sure how willing they'd be to give us a few tables / a section for an unlimited amount of time.

How many of us will be able to meet on July 16th? Do you think there'll be around 20 of us?

Two of us for sure from my family!

Let's see if we can pull some details together, and then do a bit of "advertising" so everyone can join.

What time were you thinking 11am - 2pm? Something like that?

Let's go with Old Spaghetti Factory...

I checked their website - they don't open 'til 11:30am, so let's meet at 11:30am. We can book a table / tables for as long as necessary - as you mentioned, the restaurant is big, so I'm sure they will be willing to accommodate.

For anyone traveling with families who aren't all Disney fanatics, Scotland Yard (pub) is next door and I'm sure they'll have the Jays vs Yankees game & NTN trivia on their TVs. Hockey Hall of Fame, St. Lawrence Market, Eaton Centre, etc., are also nearby. As mentioned before, the Jays vs Yankees game will be at the SkyDome (game starts at 1:07pm).

Old Spaghetti Factory is at 54 Esplanade - it's approx. one block east of Union Station. There is a parking garage nearby, and meter parking is also available.

For those of you planning to meet at the Old Spaghetti Factory - anybody into pin trading?

I don't have my pin collection in Toronto at the moment, but do have my little trade pouch I can bring if anyone's interested...
