    Default Toronto (Ontario, Canada)

Anyone interested in a possible Spring or Summer meet in the Toronto area?

We could trade pins, play games, Disney trivia, etc...

I am in Ottawa so it would have to be tied into something else that I would be doing in the TO/Niagara area. And I am terrible at trivia

Spring would be out as I will be in Disney!

Just throwin' some ideas around -

Would a meet on a Saturday or Sunday at some point in the Summer work better for everyone?

Anyone have any suggestions regarding locations? Probably somewhere that has parking or access to public transport...

    I agree, and I agree!

We could throw out a couple of summer dates, and see when people are around.

I think parking and TTC access would be best ... opens it up to a lot of people ... maybe something like the Rainforest Cafe at Yorkdale, or something around the Eaton's Centre (are they getting a new Disney store?)

Where in the GTA are people travelling from? I don't know that the TTC is relevant unless someone is right in the city and does not use a car.

We're just east of the city, and will likely drive or GO wherever we meet.

    What about the Island?

I was gonna mention Yorkdale or Scarborough Town Centre - both are just off major highways, free parking, and also accessible by public transit. Depending on how many of us will be able to meet, I'm sure Rainforest Café would reserve a few tables for us.

I'm in Downtown Toronto, but don't mind driving or taking public transport to wherever we end up meeting.

Eaton Center is another good suggestion, but finding a place to hang out for a while may be limited (food courts & restaurants are always busy there).

The island is also a good idea. However, the weather may be a factor...

Lots of events take place throughout the summer - concerts, festivals, baseball, etc. Just thinking ahead with regards to downtown traffic, etc.

    Father's Day - Sun. June 19
Canada Day - Fri. July 1
Pride Parade - Sun. July 3
Honda Indy - Fri. July 8 - Sun. July 10
Caribana Parade - Sun. July 31.
Civic Holiday - Mon. Aug. 1.
CNE will be open Fri. Aug. 19 - Mon. Sept. 5
Labour Day - Mon. Sept. 5

I like the idea of downtown somewhere. It is central and there is tons to do.

I could do central, it is easy to get to for everyone, TTC, GO, etc.

Now the hard part, deciding what we want to do!

Do we mean creating activities to do for ourselves, or meeting somewhere that has stuff to do?

How many of us are pin traders?

I could throw together some Disney trivia questions.

Another idea is to do a 'Where in the (Disney) World' type of thing - pics of different parts of WDW and see who can identify the locations. We could do the same idea, but with Disney characters.

It all depends on the number of folks that we get to meet. I did a meet in Niagara Falls once with some other INTERCOT members from the general area. What we did was walk around The Falls and went out for dinner. We spent maybe 4-5 hours together. We all had a blast and struck up some good friendships. We all talked, laughed and had a good time. Heck, some of the conversations didn't even involve Disney!!

We don't have to put too much thought into it for us all to have a good time.

Is this limited to TO inhabitants? I live near Lake Huron, about 3 hours away, but would love to meet some fellow members!

In my experience, you don't have to have a lot of structure for an INTERCOT meet. We have a ton of stuff in common -- we'll figure out something to talk about.

I suggest planning a place to meet, figure out a good estimate of how many of you there will be and reserve a place for lunch/dinner where you can stay a couple of hours and make a good deal of noise without disturbing other diners. A restaurant with a private room is ideal if there are a lot of you.

Have an AWESOME time -- and be sure to post your details as soon as you know them. My DH is in Newfoundland this year, which is a long haul, but for the sake of some good company he might fly out. It's certainly closer to Toronto than it is to home!

Are there any dates that work (or don't work at all)? I don't know 'bout y'all, but my schedule is starting to fill up...

I know the weather is usually nice during the Summer, but should we choose a meeting place that is convenient and doesn't depend on the weather?

Also - I'm thinking of those who are considering traveling from out of town who may decide to visit the Toronto area for more than a couple of hours...

I guess we could start with what do we prefer, weekends or weekdays.

    I for one prefer weekends.

I will second the weekend idea. Much easier for most people.

Do we want to look at a couple of weekends over the summer ... maybe one in July and one in August, and see which works better for everyone?
