Default Spirit of Aloha or Hoop Dee Doo?

We will be at the World in September and wanted to work a dinner show into our schedule. We have been to HDD before and loved it, but have never been to Spirit of Aloha and wondered - for those who have been to both, would we be better off going to HDD again, or should we experience something new and try Spirit of Aloha. If you've been to both, which did you like better and why?

I have been to both and will only ever do Hopp-Dee-Doo again. The Luau just was not for me. There are plenty of people who do enjoy it, however.

I look at my WDW vacations this way: I always try something new during each trip. I guess it boils down to whether you like to repeat things you know you enjoy, or if you want to be adventurous and try something new.

If I had a choice, I'd do HDD again. But, that is just me.
Let's stop defending mediocrity out of Disney and hold Disney to the higher standard they set up themselves.

If you're choices are triple bypass surgery performed by an ape without anesthesia or the luau, I might (and that's a maybe) not fault you for choosing the luau, otherwise, it's a no brainer IMHO.

We have been to both and we agree the HDD is by far the better choice. The food and entertainment are much better. If you do want to try the Luau we did once. I would hate to steer you away from something you might enjoy.

On our trip last october we went to both.... On our honemoon in december we are going to just one... the HDDMR....

I will leave the interpretation up to you... we are even staying at the home of the Luau and we are still skiping the luau...

Remember, too that HDDR is at an indoor venue. The luau, on the other hand, is not. September may be a very uncomfortable time to be sitting outside due to the heat & humidity, or the show could be cancelled due to rain. This happened to us a few years back, and it really wasn't much fun sitting around for a few hours, waiting to see if the show would go on after a delay. When they finally cancelled it, it left everyone scrambling where they were going to use their dining credits. That wasn't an issue for us, but it was disappointing nonetheless.

We are big fans of both. I'm surprised at the very negative responses surrounding the Luau. Yes, the storyline is a little cheesy...but the dancing, music, fire dancer, all very, very entertaining. And we love the food as well. Delicious!!! We are returning for our third Luau next week!! We have been to the HDDR twice, both times family members chosen to be in the show which was fun. And no one can tell me that is not a show that is full of cheesy humor. I would pick the "theme" or "style" of dinner show that interests you the most and take it from there. Lots of people enjoy both, they have BOTH been around a very long time.

We have seen both shows and enjoyed both too! I would ahve no problem go to either show. We did it in August while the facility is not air conditioned there are fans Ii don't recall it being uncomfortable because of the heat or humidity. It's a show to try even if it's only 1 time!!
