So while everyone else is busy peeking over (and through) walls at New Fantasyland and speculating about Avatarland, I have my own favorite project. As you could guess from the title, it's Flamingo Crossings -- which is my current favorite WDW Ghost Town (ever since they actually restarted construction on Legendary Years/Art of Animation.)
I tend to drive out there whenever I'm not rushing home.... much to my surprise, they've been paving again! Flamingo Crossings Boulevard now goes all the way south to the end of the development.
Taking a step back, I love me some OpenStreetMap, and decided to go look at the Orange County Property Appraiser to see if they've noted the Right of Way for the new road. I typed in "FLAMINGO CROSSINGS," but didn't find any new plats.
HOWEVER,
I did find this agreement between FLAMINGO CROSSINGS, LCC (a brand-new Disney shell company) and a certain Pharmacy...
Well, it appears the first tenant of Flamingo Crossings is ready to go. While I'm not the stellarest Deed-reader, it certainly looks like the it's going to be in the Southwest Corner of Flamingo Crossings Boulevard and Western Way.THIS RESTRICTION AGREEMENT (this "Agreement") is made as of the 30th day of September, 2011 by and between FLAMINGO CROSSINGS, LLC, a Florida limited liability company, having an address at 1375 Buena Vista Drive, Lake Buena Vista, Florida 32830 ("Flamingo") and WALGREEN CO., an Illinois corporation, having an address at 104 Wilmot Road, Ms 1420, Deerfield, Illinois 60015 ("Walgreen").
One last thing:
Given that Jim Hill recently wrote an article that included the following tidbit, I'm newly optimistic we'll see a lot of new construction happening soon.
... Mind you, a few Company insiders that I spoke with this past weekend are still hopeful that Flamingo Crossings will eventually get off the ground. If anything, they kind of view the Western Way project as a canary-in-the-coal-mine. ...
