JerseyDad - tough call in that all of our kids are unique. Mine for instance did not mind the dark in SpaceShip Earth but hated being backwards and descending on the way back down. He wears silencing headphones which were a must on energy adventure but does not mind the dark generally. If that is really the key driver then I bet you already know the answer .

The last time I was at Disneyland they were letting way too many people into the stretching rooms to go down to the ride loading area. People weren't even able to get out of the stretching room immediatley, they had to wait for the line to move, then the door to the other one would open and... yeah.
As there is no problem getting enough people to the ride area, you'd think they could offer "special sessions" of the stretching room to people with these issues, where they only let a few people in. To be frank, I think it would make the experience more pleasant for all. It was so cramped down there, I didn't like it. This way everyone would win

DW and I are both ECV users. On our last trip, in 9/10, each time we did HM, we were escorted to go in through the exit. We have not entered the regular entrance since our pre-scooter days. Now if they changed that policy I would welcome it. I miss the stretching room.

We just returned from WDW and we were able to go through the exit and bypass the stretching room. We were not given a hard time. It really has nothing to do with the new entrance.
