    Default Places with Guaranteed Snow

My children really want to see real snow. We are considering going to MA in January to visit my in laws, but as a former New England native I know that January does not guarantee snow. I'm thinking my best bet would be to schedule sometime at a ski resort, but as a non skier I am not sure what would be a good choice.

Any recommendations for something in the NE area? I am also considering driving from FL to MA so somewhere along the way might work too.

    Thanks!

I don't think you can actually guarantee snow. Even ski resorts need the right conditions to make snow, which is why the businesses suffer in off-weather years. There's a ski place in MA, Berkshire East, that might have it-- not sure where you are headed in MA. But Vermont might be your best bet, Stowe maybe. The further north, and away from the coast, the better your luck. We must have some skiers with recommendations on board, but doing a web search for area ski resorts might help, too. I hope you get your snow (and we don't-- haha).

LOL Sherri. I don't really want the snow either. I would prefer a fall trip. I haven't seen foliage since we moved here.

January can be such a funky weather month in New England with my luck it will be a heat wave and no one will have snow! I am thinking about NH, VT or ME as possible options. My MIL lives on the MA/RI border but will have limited time for a visit so we would be go elsewhere after a few days.

Yes, January is tricky. It can be super snowy or just that awful freezing rain stuff, or unusually warm (which is still cold when you're used to FL). The good news, I guess, is that most of our snow in the past few years has happened in January. Two years ago, we had nothing until January and then we were buried, almost literally, until late April.

I know there is no guarantee for snow but is is unlikely we will have another winter like last winter My girl scout troop were dying for snow so we went snowtubing (I'm not much of a skier) There is a really nice snowtubing park in Amesbury, MA (amesbury sports park) & there is one in Littleton, MA (Nashoba Valley it is down the st from their ski area) Because they make the snow its never a problem.

Lots of great family-friendly ski resorts in Colorado, Cindy. Steamboat Springs is really nice and they have lots to do there besides skiing. Maybe do a fall foliage trip to New England and a winter wonderland trip to Colorado??

As someone who lives in Massachusetts, I would be quite happy to disappoint your children in their desire to see real snow!!

Thank you. I will check that out.

That does sound like a tempting idea. I have only been to Colorado once and I really liked it.

If you are thinking Colorado, let me know!
Steamboat is my absolute favorite and have tons of info!

Breckenridge would be another good choice for the kids.

Thanks. I will let you know. I was trying to combine the limit expenses and time out of school, but it might be better to make it separate trips. I would certainly rather visit NE in the fall or spring.

Colorado is my recommendation, too. And you don't have to go in the middle of winter! My friend and I went once in the middle of September and there was already snow up in the mountains. Yet it was nicely in the 70s and 80s in Denver.
