The best thing about Fantasmic! is the great effects you can get in some shots, like that dragon.

It's tough to get good shots there since you have little time to adjust.

Oh my, thank you all but I have to give the credit to my husband John! My job is to shoot video and also tweet / post to Facebook from the iPhone. He does the awesome shots like these

As for the questions about what kind of camera & settings etc- I'll pass that along his way and he will be on to answer. (his screen name is Alongfortheride)

Thanks for all the kind words regarding the pictures. I hope you enjoy them, and I will try to keep them coming as we do stuff around the parks.
As far as gear, I used a Canon 7D with 70-200 f/4L. I was shooting ISO 1600 which gave me pretty decent shutter speeds. (1/160 - 1/250). Note that a lot of these pics are cropped. My lens will not get as "close" as these pics imply.

I'll be happy to help any way I can if anyone has camera questions.

Thanks John. Glad Christine has you along for the ride. I think I probably need to start with a more entry level SLR. It has been a long time since I've used anything but a phone or a point and shoot for photos.

Honestly, short of the pro gear, I'd get the best you can afford. The higher end cameras aren't much more complicated than the lower end, and they have better capabilities for you to grow into. If you really get into it, you'll be itching to upgrade from entry level in no time. Also, LENSES are usually more important than bodies. A great lens on a lower-end body will trump a poor lens on a great body any day. Now, if you can afford good/great lenses on a good/great body, you're golden.

    Cool

Fantastic photos! I can't remember the last time that I have spent an evening in DHS. Not a Fantasmic fan. But after seeing your pics, I'll need to pay another visit.

Nice! You should be able to get some great pics with that.

A good walk-around and a decent telephoto are all you really need. For Disney, with the exception of the safari and Fantasmic, you just need the good walk-around. Disney is built for shooting wide, not long.

Thanks for the advice. I used to take pictures quite a bit before I had children but take was back with my old 35mm camera. When I moved to digital, I went more basic but would love to move up to an SLR soon and have more control.

Awesome pictures! My husband and I love to hang out in the park during EMH and just take pictures. The lighting is gorgeous at night.

Also enjoying the camera talk. I use our school's DSLR often, as I'm the yearbook adviser. But I've yet to purchase one myself, although on the hunt. My extra money always seems to go to Disney.
