If I book our room now for next Fall (discounts available), I can always change the dates later if I need to, right?? I would like to book and start making payments.

Absolutely! Only a $200 deposit is required and the dates and details are changeable up until, I believe, 45 days before arrival! Any discounts that are announced later can be applied later by rebooking, and you can make payments as you like. Travel agents are great for this because it's their job to monitor those discounts and let you know when a deal is announced that can save you $$$... I know a great one...

Just a footnote: the $200 deposit applies if you are booking a package. Room-only reservations require one night's lodging as a deposit (using the highest priced night). This can be pretty expensive if you're booking a deluxe room. Room only reservations do not need to be paid 45 days in advance. Hope this helps!

Yes you can. I booked our October 2013 trip back in July.
Also you can change the dates up till 45 days out, after that there is a fee to change.

If you are waiting for a discount you should give Magical Journeys a try. They keep a look out for any discounts and take care of it, no need to keep watching and the hassle of calling to rebook yourself.

I do room only about 8 months out and pay slowly. I use a travel agent. She has been able to apply any surprise specials or PIN codes.
