Default Kodak Sponsorship At Disney Ending

Kodak's sponsorship of Imagination has already come to a close, but the guide maps, photo spots, Mickey's Philharmagic, Muppetvision 3D, as well as Epcot's Camera Center, and Hollywood Studios stores Cover Story and Garden Gate Gifts are still all sponsored by Kodak... Well, as of December 31, 2012, that will be ending... Kodak's presence in the parks will be gone...

    This also includes Disneyland...
Son of Jor-El.. Kneel before Zod...

TRICIA JONES: I heard that you were going to propose to Brandi Svenning at some theme park. When are men going to learn that women want ROMANCE, not Mr. Toad's Wild Ride...

BRODIE: Hey, now, be fair. EVERYONE wants Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

Kodak failed to capitalize on the emerging digital photography market fast enough when it was "developing" (pun intended), and it's days as a stand alone company are numbered. It is bleeding red ink. So this announcement is really not that surprising. Still kinda sad though.

It's day may not yet be numbered. They will be a completely redefined company focussing on printing but not involved with film and cameras. There has been a plan put forward to let them emerge from bancruptcy protection.

It's equally sad to have lived in the Rochester, NY area and see the impact this has on the community. It's even more of a shame that Kodak actually invented the first digital camera in the '70's and passed it off as a fad.

I'm sad that the Kodak name will no longer be at Disney, as I always felt a sense of pride to see Kodak represented in the parks. Like a little piece of home was there.

Another business that failed to change with the times...

Printing you say, not sure that's a direction with much of a future either...

Kind of doubt that too. Businesses still print lots of documents, the paperless offic isn't here yet. That's a difficult area to compete in and personal printing is declining. Long term printing is likely to become less and less.

Its days may not be totally numbered, but they will never be the giant they once were. So sad the number of local families their downfall has affected here. We personally had a handful of family members once employed there, one BIL (DVC owner) just let go a couple of months ago…

My DH always said that they made “buggy whips” and never stayed current with the times. I can understand why Disney is rolling out NextGen to try to stay ahead of the game a bit…

Kodak has been on the verge of going out of business for a few years now. Didn't they release an announcement last year or the year before that they weren't making cameras anymore? This trip now I have noticed a lot of the "Kodak picture spot" plaques are gone.

Totally agree and it is sad. I had family members who worked in the Rochester plant and a friend who is a recent retiree and concerned about his pension and future. It has had a large impact and it all comes down to management with poor ability to see the future.

It is sad. Kodak has been been a loyal and faithful sponsor for many many years.

We head down there (less than 48 hours away!) and I will make it a point to take lots of pictures of anything with Kodak on the sign.
