Ohhh boat captain rumors!!!! The only other rumors based more in fantasy than reality are bus driver rumors...

The Dippin' Dots guys are usually ranked pretty high up there too.

As on old WDW Boat Captain, I heard the reason they are working on the Main Street Railroad is to widen the tracks and extend it's run out to EPCOT to connect to the NEW Wild West Land! You know how those Boat Captains arrrrrr.

Upgrading buses won't help with a monorail shutdown; they'd have to add additional buses. I couldn't see a 2 year shutdown on the monorail system. Between the monorail resorts and the monorail really being an attraction itself, that's a long time for it to be down.

Ahhhh.....you never know!
Modern Monorail systems are not the concrete behemoths that they were 42 years ago. Although I am somewhat hesitant to believe this rumor at this time, the technology exists to achieve this in an economically feasible way.
Let's all be hopeful and optimistic, after all a very smart man once said,
"If you can dream it, you can do it"
or something like that!

As was stated earlier, monorail technology has come a long way in the last decade since there has been a push for it throughout the country, costs are coming down. So someday the cost may come down enough that it may become financially beneficial to connect more resorts and parks. Especially if they are afraid they are going to lose people to the Universal resorts as they keep popping up...

Now getting environmental permits with all those wetlands... good luck with that...

I don't really have too many thoughts on the expansion at this point except that it's probably not feasible, however, replacing the current monorail cars and giving the current system updates, that I can see. I was thinking about it when listening to one of the monorail spiels that gives the history for the monorails currently being used, and based on previous updates, they are definitely past due, at least for new cars. Hopefully they will be updating those in the near term.
