    Default Fat people on rides?

There, bet that got your attention Last time we went to Universal, I was too big for many of the rides. I didn't want to embarass myself by trying the "tester" seats, so skipped anything I wasn't absolute sure of. I only rode things like Spiderman. I've been losing weight steadily and planning a trip back when I'm SURE I'll be able to ride everything, but wondering the magic number that will do that for me. I'm a 5'6" woman - if I get under 200, do you think I'll be able to ride everything? Pretty close to that now, although my goal weight is about 50 pounds less than that.

You should be fine, but it really depends on where your weight is (but I really doubt you would have an issue)

and congrats on the weight loss!!!

First, congrats on your weight loss! I am 5'1" and hover in the 190 range (pre Mickey ice cream bars) with most of my weight in the bottom/thigh area. I ride on EVERYTHING at both Disney and Universal...some are a little squished but still totally manageable! Go for it!

Congrats on the weight loss!! My brother in law is around 5'11 and 260 and he went on most of the rides and had no problem besides the big roller coasters. I think you will be fine, have a great time!!

Thanks everyone, but especially denidale since I think your proportions are similar to mine. My hubby is 300 but tall so has never had any problem except on "forbidden journeys" where he had to use one of the special seats, so like Tink says it is partly "where" the weight is. He saw the most horrifying thing at Seaworld - a woman so determined to ride the Kraken that the attendant had his knee in her stomache trying to squish her in. I don't EVER want to be her! LOL

Sounds like I am in your "size range" (actually a little bigger) and I have never had to turn away from any Universal or Disney ride. FJ in the WWoHP was a little tight but definitely doable.

I use the "extended size seating" (or whatever its called where the seats are roomier) anyplace it's available just to be certain.

And you know? I've NEVER not fit into any Disney ride, but Universal and Seaworld are a different story. Darn near got STUCK in Dudley Do-Right (whatever it's called). I got IN but wasn't sure I was ever getting OUT without a forklift and ended up with bruised legs. Yikes. I about died when I thought I meet need to ask for help!

I recently went to Universal Studios Hollywood, I am a 300 lb guy, and it's all in my belly. I had no problems fitting on their rides, so Transformers and Simpsons you'd be fine. I think Jurassic Park has the same ride vehicles in California and Florida, though it's a different ride. I'm not sure how the restraints on Mummy compare with each other (this is also a different ride to my understanding), but I was fine in California.

The B & M roller coasters (at universal Islands of Adventure, this would be Hulk and Dragon) offer a "modified seat" for larger guests, usually it's in one of the center rows, though some rides may have one in a couple rows, usually it's well posted and announced, though I don't think you'll need it, if you are unsure ask an employee which row you should get in. It's the seat with 2 seatbelts instead of just 1.

Vanity aside, that was totally irresponsible of the ride attendant. My understanding is that most of the shoulder restraint rides rely on a 3-click system. If the restraint doesn't click three times with the rider being the one to secure the harness, it is not considered secure. In other words, if the attendant had to squish her in she should not have been allowed to ride. We had a woman at Six Flags here in Texas last year who was only able to click herself in once or twice and she fell from the ride and was killed. She even questioned the attendant about it before launch and they did not do a safety check. Very sad.

To the OP--you should okay on most of the rides. Hulk might be a bit iffy; I'm not sure if that ride has the special seating option.

This has been a worry of ours after reading about smaller seating vs Disney. Hubby is 5'11" and around 250 with most of his weight in his belly and I'm 5'7" currently 219 after losing 15 lbs. Most of mine is in my chest which I hate. Sound like we might be right on the line. This is my biggest fear. I would probably do the same as the OP. I'm very self concious Obviously this is our first time to pull ourselves away from Disney to finally get to Universal since our kids are teens.
