Sounds wonderful, Maryanne. Snow King will be a bit if a drive from the south entrance, but as you say it's only one day. And you'll be close to the Jackson Hole airport on your last day.

Yes, I think that's why SIL picked it. She wanted to be close by because they want to have some time to check out that area and not be too rushed about getting to the airport.

From Jackson Hole to the south entrance is 2 hours, then figure about another hour to get into the major sightseeing. So that's about 3 hours of driving one way.

We stayed in Jackson Hole for three days and had plenty to do there. We took a great raft ride that took about 4 hours and included dinner. You might want to try that instead of driving all the way back to Yellowstone.

Beth I agree with you, I was disappointed in Lake Yellowstone. Not much to do there. We did take the 30 min boat ride but I thought it was kind of boring. That is the only day I would have changed. But Lake Yellowstone Hotel had a great restaurant.

MaryAnn we stayed at the Rustic Inn. It was very cool. Jackson Hole was a fun town. Lots of shops, bars, and restaurants

Your trip sounds good. You cannot see it all (or remember it-me).
    1. It will be very cold so dress in many layers
Buffalo look cool in the morning when coated in a few inches of snow.
    2. Spring means many babies with hyper mothers, extreme caution needed but wow the number of animals can be amazing. If there is a "animal jam" look closely. Bears are often just heads visible in the tall grass.
    3. Try for 2-3 pairs of binoculars. 10X40 in the $60 dollar range from wal-mart are fine. Try them out at the store.
    4. The newer digital cameras with zoom and stabilizers can get amazing photos on auto focus. We used a small 6'" tripod. it is easier to hold the camera with this, or use it on a rock for time delay group photo.
    5. Get going early. Eat breakfast on the road or in the park. The animals are moving around for breakfast. Tourists get going slowly so traffic builds later in the morning.
