In the next week we have Halloween, turn the calendar to November, jump out of daylight savings time and as a nation, host a general election. Lots going on! Personally, I would prefer we just stay on DST, I don't like having it dark so early in the winter. Beyond that though, this little string with over 800 posts will be ticking another anniversary mid-month to hit six years.

We lived in Baton Rouge for a couple years and loved the food for sure. Although, I've got to say that my favorite is a simple crawfish boil. That or a low country boil suits me any day!

I am thinking about adding on a bathroom to my house. I really like the way brick houses look, so I am thinking about having it done in brick. We don't generally have brick houses here in Phoenix, so what are the pros and cons from you guys who live in them? Are you able to hang pictures and stuff on brick walls?

So built like a brick s#!+house? My house was built in 1900 and is all brick, but of course all the plaster walls have long been replaced by wallboard with insulation. My guess is in AZ that you'll need plenty of insulation just to keep it cool. If your house is mostly stucco now (my guess on an AZ style), then I've seen plenty of mixed brick, stone, stucco, siding houses that make it work. It's all about the aesthetics, I guess.

Most brick houses have brick veneer on the outside. interior walls are built with studs and insulation and drywall, so hanging pictures inside is no different than any other house with drywall. If you are taking about having brick on the interior walls, its a little more difficult. You'll have to have drill holes with a masonry bit and insert wall anchors in the holes. We have a brick fireplace in our living room, and had to do this to hang a mirror above the mantel.

I'd say it depended on when your house was built. Finding or buying new or relatively new construction with more that 25% of the exterior is probably rare. Most builders these days will do brick front or brick accents but I would imagine it is pricey to get all brick and probably custom if it is.

That said, our 1900 house had plaster walls which have all been replaced. Depended on the upkeep of the house, I bet there are plenty out there that still have plaster walls. There are indeed many advantages to drywall vs. plaster, but they certainly don't build them like they used to.

I was thinking about the inside. Seeing as how I don't know what the words in your next to last sentence mean, I may have to rethink that. lol. Maybe just a brick entryway into the bathroom.
