Exclamation Planet Hollywood to Transform into Planet Hollywood Observatory

    2/27/15

Planet Hollywood International, Inc. has announced that it will be participating in the Disney Springs project at Walt Disney World. As part of the major renovation project, the Planet Hollywood restaurant will become the Planet Hollywood Observatory restaurant.

Early leaked plans of the Disney Springs project included reference to an "Observatory" restaurant in the existing Planet Hollywood location.

The full press release and concept art are below:

America's Iconic Celebrity-Themed Restaurant to Revitalize Premiere Location by Unveiling Bold New Design Statement Inspired by Turn-of-the-Century Aesthetic

Planet Hollywood International, Inc. Press Release
    Feb. 27, 2015

ORLANDO, Fla., -- Planet Hollywood, America's preeminent restaurant destination dedicated to celebrating the entertainment industry, will look toward a new set of stars by transforming its Orlando flagship location into a four-story stargazing observatory set to debut in spring 2016. Regularly at the forefront of industry trends, the reimagined Planet Hollywood Observatory is centrally located and will overlook the heart of Downtown Disney with a newly-expanded outdoor terrace and bar. Within the sophisticated entertainment emporium, patrons of all ages are invited to "Dine Amongst the Stars" through a refreshed yet timeless menu, distinctive outdoor bar and lounge options, an imaginative new merchandise line, and a host of all-star celebrity partnerships.

Intensive renovations and artistic treatments, spearheaded by design firm Elkus Manfredi Architects, will take place early next year and will align Planet Hollywood Observatory with the transformation of Downtown Disney into Disney Springs. Disney Springs will be a one-of-a-kind Disney experience, treating guests by day and night to exceptional dining, shopping and entertainment amid beautiful open-air promenades, flowing springs and waterfront charm.

The Observatory's exterior will share the Disney Springs turn-of-the-century design aesthetic, while the interior's refurbished upholstery, spherical planet-shaped lighting fixtures and stylish finishing will create a welcoming atmosphere for fans to celebrate a new generation of superstar entertainers. New dining and lounge options will include a new outdoor terrace and outdoor bar space called Stargazers, which will feature live entertainment while music in the main dining room will be energized by DJ performances. Walls and glass displays throughout the massive space will be adorned with imagery and memorabilia from various movies paying homage to a long tradition of filmmaking and recognizing beloved newcomers.

"We're thrilled to be a part of Disney Springs and transform our brand as Disney evolves its exciting new venue," said Planet Hollywood International Founder and Chairman Robert Earl. "With Planet Hollywood Observatory, we are refreshing our dining experience as we renew our commitment to the new, rising stars of the entertainment industry -- a part of our core mission since inception."

Refreshed dining options will highlight Planet Hollywood's timeless classics and introduce a host of updated additions. A curated beverage program will feature a variety of milkshakes, smoothies, wines, bottled and draft beers, as well as cocktails served in specialty glassware to cater to the needs of all guests, from groups with small children to young adults and seniors. Spacious dining rooms ensure comfort for family meals while various bar spaces set the mood for a perfect date.

    ABOUT PLANET HOLLYWOOD

Planet Hollywood International, Inc. is the creator and worldwide developer of a consumer brand that capitalizes on the universal appeal of movies, television, sports, music and other leisure-time activities. The Company's worldwide operations offer products and services in the restaurant, retail, lodging, leisure and entertainment sectors.

    ABOUT DISNEY SPRINGS

Representing the largest expansion in Downtown Disney history, Disney Springs will be a one-of-a-kind Disney experience, treating guests by day and night to exceptional dining, shopping and entertainment amid beautiful open-air promenades, flowing springs and waterfront charm. With an air of sophisticated grace and design that harkens to Florida's waterfront towns at the turn-of-the-century, Disney Springs will be home to four distinct, outdoor neighborhoods opening in phases: The Landing, Town Center, Marketplace and West Side. The Landing is the first of the four neighborhoods and is scheduled to open in spring 2015.

When fully completed in 2016, Disney Springs will double the number of shopping, dining and entertainment venues – from the current 70 to approximately 150. Disney Springs is part of Walt Disney World Resort, the number one family vacation destination in the world, located in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

    Default Planet Hollywood

I used to make a trip to PH part of every trip in 90's but have not been there in years. Just lost the interest after PI closed. Hopefully the new joint will make it a part of our agenda. We live in the Mid-Atlantic and are fortunate to go to WDW @ 5-6 times a year

    Cool

This is ... ummm ... weird? Why is it an observatory? At first I thought they were going to have like a planetarium or maybe even an actual telescope, but it seems pretty much like a regular old Planet Hollywood?

Any word on when it's closing? We have ressies for 4/16. We hadn't been since our honeymoon in 1995 and then went on our last trip in 2013 and the kids liked it so we booked again for 2015. We've been pleased with the food and our experiences there. We just hadn't thought of it for a while with it being kind of out of the way. Maybe not for long? I think it's a welcome change!

It would be most unusual for an observatory to have such a bright light next to it, wouldn't it?

Observatory - to Observe what?? Not the stars, too many lights around for that. Guess you can stare down and people watch.

We tried Planet Hollywood twice. Both times were riddled with terrible service and food far below Disney standards. The first time we thought was a fluke so with the second chance we gave it confirmed we'd no longer seek reservations there again. It's just that bad. The facelift looks nice and I hope the food and service get one as well.

Isn't the whole reason it is a failure due to the concept being built around the memorabilia instead of the menu? Changing the theme without addressing the food problem is like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. It still s(t)inks.

Call me stupid, but I don't get "SMC"...

"LTOP" was pretty simple - Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Pickle

The menu is very similar to guy fieri's own restaurant in vegas. I am excited though because i had the bacon Mac and cheeseburger in vegas a couple years ago and it was amazing.
