    Default Toronto

A few buddies and I are thinking about going to Toronto for a baseball series in July. This will be the first time any of us have driven outside of the country.

What happens when you hit the patrol border? Do we all have to have our IDs ready, what are some of the questions that they ask?

Did anyone ever have any major problems with border patrol?

What about car insurance? did you need something special since our insurance is American and we are in Canada.

Any help or information will be great!

You will need a US passport or passport card to enter Canada from the United States.

If you are taking a vehicle registered in the United States into Canada, you should also contact your auto insurance company to have them issue a card that identifies the vehicle as carrying the proper insurance for driving in Canada.

We've been asked a variety of questions at the border such as where we reside in the U.S., where we were born, and why we are planning to visit Canada.

Typically the crossover is pretty relaxed and fairly easy.

Crossing the border is easy, we do it at least twice per year, though going the other way. Just be open and honest with the Border officers. Like Faline said a passport is a must. There are special driver licences that a few states and provinces issue that will allow cross border travel, but they are a premium item and you have to apply for them outside of the usual driver's licence application.

An added note is that the Pan-Am games are being held here in Toronto this July 10-26 and prices for hotels are already going up. I see that the Phillies are in town on July 28th and 29th so you should be OK in missing the crowds.

Your insurance, it is good in Canada as well. I know that Canadian insurance cards are good in both countries.

I hope you do come to Toronto and enjoy all that we have to offer.

Yea! I hope you love Toronto - it is a great city!

Crossing the border is fairly easy, just be honest and you shouldn't have any issues. You'll drive up to the booth, hand over your passports and they will ask a couple of questions, usually what is your citizenship (even though you just handed over your passports!), where you're going and why. I've never had any huge issues.

Brian is right, the city is gearing up for the Pan Am Games, but you're right at the start of the break between the PanAm Games and the ParaPan Games, so you should be OK.

A word of note, traffic in and around Toronto is HORRIBLE ... worse that we've experienced in Atlanta, so plan lots of time to get around, or just take transit (the TTC).

We went to Toronto years ago and had a lot of fun. Tons of good restaurants. Is Wonderland Theme Park still opened? That was a nice clean park.

Wonderland is still going, they have lots of big coasters. It can be a bit pricey though, I thought Disney prices for food and stuff was steep until we went to Wonderland!

When we went it was owned by Paramount. I felt that all of the prices in Toronto were a little expensive anyway...but all larger cities are usually like that. I don't remember the theme park prices being out of line...but that was a while ago and things may have changed...or maybe my memory is getting bad in my old age.
