Default Mammoth Cave National Park, KY

We're thinking about potential trips for this summer, and this was one idea that was brought up. We've never been there before. Any tips, suggestions, must dos? I did a lot of exploring on their site and it looks like they have nice lodging. The Historical Cave tour sounds like a good place to start, along with a half day canoeing trip. I tried to find horse back riding, but it looks like everything is geared around owning and bringing your own horse, which we don't. Also looked at the Lost Sea tour. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

You will have a great time- nice area and fun. Try to go on the longest cave tour. Great place to spend a hot summer day.

You will like it. As K says, don't be afraid to take any of the longer tours. They are not too demanding. If you can climb 5 flights of stairs, you can do the tours. I do recommend staying on site if you can. We stayed in the "motel" section and it had the best water pressure of any hotel I have ever stayed at. Blasted the dirt off you!

I'd recommend one of the longer tours that includes the Historic section. I thought they closed down the Lost Sea (any water tour) because of water pollution worries. Maybe it's back. I'd do that because it wasn't offered the last time we were there. Have fun!

Definitely a great trip. And make sure to include Kentucky Down Under while you're there. It's just an exit up the road. It's an Australian zoo. Very cool. The Corvette Museum isn't too far away if you're into cars and Bardstown isn't too far away either. Lots of great history there.

I went to mammoth cave as a young kid and really enjoyed it. So much so that I still remember it many years later!

We were there in '94 and stayed in one of the cabins, the water pressure was so strong it was almost painful! They had these metal shower stalls and the sound the water made was ridiculous! The cabins were pretty dated then, don't even know if they still exist, but we still joke about the showers! The cave tours are awesome, I tried to get DH to do one of the wild cave tours but he wasn't having any of that! We also went to Ruby Falls which was a different type of cave experience (good). Enjoy!
