Personally I feel it should be a federal law that you can shoot on site folks w/ selfie sticks.

    Good for WDW.

It's a shame that inconsiderate people ruined this for the considerate ones, but I for one am breathing a sigh of relief that we won't have to deal with these on our next trip. We're already fed up with the giant iPads and tablets being held up for pictures and videos. Not that we get angry, we actually laugh a little, but it still ruins the view.

We were down a couple weeks ago and throughout the week I was hit by no less than 3 self(ish) sticks (2 were on the bridge between England and France.) One guy started yelling about hitting his phone.. So don't stick your phone out on a 3ft pole and swing it into the middle of a crowd! And he is the one that hit me with it!

They have their place, but in the hands of inconsiderate people they are a nuisance at best and a potential serious danger. Like many things in life, it would not have to be regulated if people would simply regulate themselves.

There's one more to add to the "it's all about me-me-me" category.

Add that to the law.. I hate when people use tablets as cameras..

Maybe a better punishment, lock them into Stitch's great escape.

Even if I hadn't seen your profile name, that statement alone would have indicated that you are probably from Texas.

Glad to hear about the ban. It's unfortunate for those that use selfie sticks responsibly, but necessary for safety.

I have one, and had planned to bring it along on our trip in November. To be used for capturing GROUP shots of my family, that we otherwise won't have. I couldn't care LESS about using it to get better shots of a parade...or of a ride...I just wanted some photographic documentation of my family, all together, for crying out loud.

I have traveled the world solo with a small unobtrusive digital camera with a self timer. Have great shots of me in places simply by setting the camera on something and tripping the self timer.

Occasionally I have asked someone to shoot a picture of me when a place to set the camera for a minute was not obvious ....... and offered to reciprocate. Never refused.

In regards to the large tablets, I just never understood why someone would want to lug one around the parks. If my phone's camera could even come close to taking pictures comparable to our regular camera (which is not anything big and fancy, just a nice point and shoot), I would happily leave the camera behind as well.

Sorry others have ruined this for you. But you sure don't need one to get group pictures of your family. As someone else mentioned, most cameras have a timer. Or, there are plenty of other guests who would happily take some for you. The CMs are awesome about doing it too! They often come up and offer when we weren't even thinking to ask. Even the PhotoPass photographers will take pictures with your camera!

I just think that extending anything in a crowded area is bound to lead to problems. The person using it may be responsible and conscious of the people around them, but then you have to count on everyone in that crowd being aware that you've stuck this long stick out with a camera on the end. How easy would it be for someone to look away at just the wrong moment and walk right into it?

And you can't ask a CM or passer-by to take a pic for you? Human interaction is under-used and under-rated. You will find that almost EVERY CM and most other visitors will gladly help you out in these cases.

Sorry, but I actually LIKE talking and interacting with other people.

It always amazes me these days the number of people who have to review the video footage and photos of where they have been when they get home....... in order to experience where they have been.

They spend their whole trips (or lives) staring thru a viewfinder and immediately uploading to Facebook and Twitter and Instagram, and the like and don't actually get to BE there.

Important memories come from people, experiences, and being places... not videography and photography. Images are nice documentation ...... but they are not "real" and not what is important. The event was important... the photos are to rekindle memories of the event. THEY are not the event, unless you are a pro photographer or videographer.

(This said by a professional visual artist! )

Great saying from the 60's ...... "Be here, now."

I think that some replies in this thread are becoming a little preachy. There's no one right (or wrong) way to enjoy the parks--everyone marches to the beat of their own drum. What does is matter if someone else likes to take multiple photos/videos of events? As long as they aren't sticking a selfie stick up in front of my face, blinding me with flash photography on dark rides or tripping over me while walking and taking pictures at the same time, I don't care.
