Exclamation Alcohol Policy Changes effective 9/30/15

Disney’s generous alcohol policy is changing. The revised alcohol policy will be effective for all new sailings embarking on or after September 30, 2015. The key change in the policy is the limiting of the qualities of wine or champagne and beer as well as prohibiting liquors and spirits.

•Each Guest 21 years and older may bring two bottles of unopened wine or champagne (no larger than 750ml) or six beers (no larger than 12oz) onboard in carry-on luggage at the beginning of the voyage and at each port-of-call.

•All alcoholic beverages packed in checked luggage will be removed and stored until the completion of the cruise.

•Wine or champagne in excess of the two allowable bottles or beer in excess of the six beers will be stored and Guests may retrieve them at the end of the voyage.

All liquors and spirits (including powdered alcohol) are prohibited and will be stored until the completion of the cruise.

•Guests must retrieve any stored alcohol at the end of the cruise. Uncollected alcohol will be destroyed and no compensation will be offered.

•Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.

Disney Cruise Line Corkage Fee Increase

September 30th will also serve as the date for the new corkage fee charged to Guests who bring their own wine or champagne into one of our restaurants will be $25 per bottle, up from $20.

Just like the "selfistick ban" and "place holder DCL cruise policy" changes - I'd like to THANK each and everyone who contributed in ruining it for the folks who didn't abuse any of the "old" policies.

Guess the DCL terminal will be free of Coleman coolers being lugged around full of adult beverages and Wal-Mart plastic bags wrapping up 30 packs of beer held under arms while waiting to board.

Actually I guess I could add the RFID soda drink cups too? Filling up 2 liter or larger bottles for free for your day at the pool? Yeah - THANKS for that too. Though I'm not a soda/pop drinker.

I have been on several Disney cruises and never saw any of what you are describing. I have not seen people abusing the old policies. My guess is that Disney just wants to make more money on selling alcohol to it's guests.

This is about money. They are still allowing alcohol to be brought onboard, just making it inconvenient.

Actual drunks don't let $$$$ stop them, by the way.

I wish Disney would just turn the "adult nightclub" zone into a casino and be done with it. Then they could actually lower fares.

Guess you don't cruise enough or pay attention. I've seen plenty of 30 packs in Wal-mart bags in the DCL terminal and when hanging out in the quiet cover adult pool area seem plenty of non-disney coolers with aluminum beer bottles.

Far as money, Disney cruises have some of the lesser fees for alcohol be it drink by drink or alcohol packages. Our Alaska cruise on Celebrity was extremely nice. The food was way better than Disney. Disney could learn more than a few things about food from Celebrity. BUT the alcohol packages and drink by drink fees on Celebrity we way higher than Disney. And YES they had Casinos on the Celebrity ship, of which I have no interest. Waste of space IMO. I hope Disney never adds Casino areas to their ships.

Pay attention - you'll be surprised what you see.

But how much cheaper was your Celebrity Cruise to Alaska compared to sailing DCL in Alaska? Probably less than half the price. Casinos make a HUGE amount of money and they are easily avoided if you don't want to gamble.

And I won't be surprised to see drink prices on DCL climb higher as a result of this new rule.

At first our plan was to cruise Alaska w/DCL since it is our favorite cruise line and honestly the only cruise line we have used. Over 1.5 years ago we priced it and basically thought we'd settle for an inside stateroom - not our choice but to do it still on DCL this fit into our budget.

THEN we found out about Celebrity. And for what DCL wanted for an inside state room we maxed out the room on Celebrity with an Aqua Concierge room which is above STD stateroom and concierge level too. AND we still saved money vs. what DCL wanted for the inside room and didn’t have to worry about sailing out of Vancouver either. Which is a travel pain and would have yet upped our price more to transport into Vancouver. Celebrity sails out of Seattle. Deluxe stateroom with verandah on DCL was over 2/3rds vs. what we paid with Celebrity at a higher level. Normally when we cruise DCL we book a Deluxe stateroom w/Verandah. Again – at first we thought we’d settle with an inside state room to just do it on DCL. Glad we didn’t. Both DW and I and our travel friends who we’ve cruised many times with on DCL all agreed that Alaska is about Alaska – and we saw no need to be there with the mouse and pay for it.

Compared ships? Celebrity is not themed like DCL in any way. But the Solstice ship was super just the same. Clean, up to date and very posh. With both outdoor and indoor areas for adults. Size wise it was 2400 passengers. Plenty big. Alcohol was about 1/3 more vs. DCL and they didn’t hound you like your first 2 days where DCL continually tries to press their drink packages. And our Celebrity stateroom was at least as big if not larger to the deluxe staterooms that we have on DCL. The bathroom in our Celebrity stateroom had a much larger shower with closing door and NO FOG mirrors as well. HUGE PLUS!
AND because DCL doesn’t have a great presence in Alaska we didn’t have to mess with tendering from ship to port. Celebrity ships were in port so down the gangway you walk and on port.

Will we sail Celebrity again? YUP in a minute. What we experienced, daily bottles of champagne delivered to our room at no charge, private dining rooms for Aqua guests and a much better buffet selection vs. DCL when we want to travel and go somewhere that the mouse need not attend – Celebrity will be our cruise line of choice.

AND the souvenirs were not anywhere near the price of DCL stuff. We didn’t find one $70 hoodies on Celebrity. But we did find some top end shops like Michael Kors etc on board.

Do we still like the mouse and plan to cruise with him and the gang? SURE – can’t put a price on a feeling or MAGIC. But if we are traveling to a place that we’ve never been – there are much better choices that are just as high quality. I’m all about saving money but I won’t be on a cruise line that has ships that need to be towed back to port or worse…yeah, those cruises are available too. Just not for me.

I have taken many Disney Cruises thank you. Just because I don't agree with your abrasive opinions doesn't mean that I am walking around in a fog. Maybe it is you that should wake up and realize that Disney is trying to squeeze every last penny out of their guests, whether on a cruise, in their hotels or in the theme parks.

    P.S.
That extra large bottle of "mouthwash" isn't going to fool anybody.....

It's been years since we've sailed DCL, but I have to agree with GMRO... I was pretty surprised at all of the coolers we saw at the time. We didn't bring ANY alcohol on board, but we will bring the allowed 2 bottles per person on our next cruise. We love having wine and/or beer back at our room at WDW, and will do the same on DCL next December.

Somewhat tied in with the alcohol policy... We just got off the Dream, and went to buy some liquor at the Duty Free store onboard. The shelves where the alcohol was previously displayed are now full of clothing. We learned that DCL is discontinuing alcohol sales in the shop. They are presently selling off whatever they have in their stock room, and when that's gone no more alcohol sales. The CMs in the store claimed they don't know the reasoning behind this move.
