Default Choosing FP+ without park tickets

Can I choose FP+ without having tickets linked to MDE?
My husband's vacation policy changed at work and he can't ask off for any time in December until October. 😳 I made our resort reservation and added the DDP, and will make ADRs in June, since those can all be cancelled. However since tickets are non-refundable, and I don't want to be stuck with seven 10-day tickets if he can't get off work, I'm going to wait to buy them until we know for sure. The only problem is we are supposed to choose FP+ on Oct. 11, and he can't request off until Oct. 15. If I haven't linked tickets by then, can I still choose FP+? Or should I tell him to beg for an early decision?

No, this is a catch of the FP+ system, you have to have tickets linked to choose FP+ times.

The tickets are expensive ... will you go at some point in the future? Even if you link them, if you never use them, they will be good through next year, so you could use them for a future trip. Otherwise, I wouldn't panic, find out on the 15th, and make them then.

I certainly wouldn't panic about the 4 day difference in timing. I'd get the clearance and make my fast passes after that time. You may need to do a bit more work if you can't get a fastpass or two you want at first (checking back frequently to see if they open up).

This is the problem I am seeing with future trips using the military salute tickets. Those tickets expire at the end of the year, used or not. In the past we purchased our tickets from Shades of Green once we arrived for our vacation. We don't live on, or near, a military base so SoG was our most convenient option. Then if for some unforeseen reason we had to cancel a trip the tickets weren't purchased yet so we would not lose that money. Now, if we want FP+, we will have to purchase the salute tickets by either calling and having them shipped to us, or driving to the nearest military base to get them. Then if we have to cancel the trip and can't reschedule within the year the tickets (and that $$) is lost.

They wouldn't let him have off if the trip was scheduled before they made the policy change?

I don't understand, if you have a package reservation which includes the Disney Dining Plan, then you should also have tickets as part of that reservation. While there are a few scenarios where you can have the DDP without also having tickets, it would be an anomaly.

If you have tickets booked as part of a "package reservation", you can make your FP+ reservations at 60 days. If it turns out you have to cancel your trip, you can cancel your entire package reservation up to 31 days out without penalty. If you cancel a package reservation, your tickets just "disappear" and you get all of your money back, you will not be stuck with the tickets.

If you buy the tickets outside of a package reservation, you will be stuck with the tickets. As others have posted, you will NOT have any problem waiting the few extra days before booking your FP+ reservations, if that turns out to be what you have to do.

So, do you indeed have a package reservation, with the Disney Dining Plan and with the correct number of days for those tickets?

EDIT: I just saw on your other thread that you do not have a package reservation, which makes me curious how you have the DDP without tickets?

The company was bought out in December and the change went into effect January 1. However, they were not made aware of it until late February. He thinks he might be able to ask early, since it's a big trip planned, but can't promise anything.

The resort reservation was made through "Guest Experiences" due to the credit for two nights, not through the main reservation line. They were able to add the DDP to the resort reservation, but said that they don't sell tickets, so I would have to pick them up separately (not sure why).
