Default April cruise from San Juan, hotel near port? HELP!

We are cruising the southern Caribbean this coming April, from San Juan. Wondering if I should book a hotel in San Juan for the night before? Any suggestions?
Have never cruised from San Juan, not sure about timing from airport to cruise terminal.

We're cruised out of San Juan once and did overnight in San Juan before boarding our ship for departure. Since one never knows if there will be air delays etc., I've always opted to arrive at least one day prior to the day we set sail regardless of where we might sail from.

We stayed in a hotel close enough to the port that we could see the ship from our hotel - it's still far enough away that a taxi will be necessary to get to the ship. If we did it again, we'd probably stay in Old San Juan. As it was, we cabbed back and forth from Old San Juan to see some of the sights during the one afternoon/evening we had there.

We have done this a few times and always come in the day before. But our last hotel experience wasn't a good one so I won't pass that info on. But something to consider that we LOVED was a Segway tour of San Juan and the Fort the morning of your cruise. They will hold your luggage either at your hotel or the Segway place actually held ours for us. It was a great way to see some sights before boarding time.

We just completed the repositioning cruise from NYC to San Juan. We stayed 2 nights at the Caribe Hilton, pricy but fun. The last night we moved to closer to the airport and stayed at the Embassy Suites. We acutally would recommend both. ES was much cheaper and they have a casino. Taxi from Embassy to Port would run $25+ dollars.

When we stayed at the San Juan Marriott/Stellaris Casino, there were lots of cruisers also spending a few nights there. It's a lovely resort hotel on Condado beach, not far from the port I think. It's another one to consider.
