    Default Moana

Saw the movie Saturday night as part of Destination D. All 1,300 of us got the chance to see the movie on the beach at the Poly. Liked the movie. Not the best Disney movie, but certainly not the worse. I still have the music in my head. Look for the Easter eggs and the reference to the first Pirates movie. Make sure you stay to the VERY end. At the end of the credits is one more funny scene.

I've got to say. I was more than underwhelmed. We saw it tonight and 4 out of 5 us did not like it at all. It was a visually stunning film, but the storyline was dull.

Really? I loved it! I agree the storyline seemed fairly "been there, done that" but the visuals and the music were great. We took three generations and everyone loved it!

Totally agree that visuals are stunning, but not really a fan of the music. We were a group of all ages, 50's, 20 something, teen and 7 year old. 13 year old is only one who liked it. For me, I just couldn't get into it. I didn't feel a connection with the characters. First time I think I was really disappointed in a Disney film.

We loved the movie! I thought the story was great and the visuals were outstanding. The tunes are catchy and memorable. I left the theater singing several of them. I wasn't disappointed at all.

Most of my family really liked it a lot. My son was eh and my wife and I both liked it although we both thought it had some ... odd ... spots in it (*cough* the crab! *cough* *cough*). My three girls all loved it!

We were all (finace, 2 kids) in love with Moana. We felt it was better than Frozen, and we LOVE Frozen. Didn't mind the story line (although the dialogue wasn't very quotable, we are still quoting Frozen in our house), we actually thought it was more empowering and positive than Frozen was. There was no mention of a love interest, arranged marriage, or repressed tomboy shame in the story at all.

Visually I was very impressed and we didn't even see it in 3D. We all loved the music as well, and we are particularly biased because my DF and I think Lin-Manuel Miranda can't write a bad note if he tried. I thought not only the songs but the score were so well paced and composed. I additionally liked that the songs were spaced out well from beginning to end of the film, which I didn't like about Frozen. In Frozen, the songs are beautiful but they were front-loaded into the first quarter of the movie and stuck one forgettable troll number just halfway through and then nothing the rest of the film, not even a coda or reprise. My step-daughter bought the soundtrack the next day and has memorized the entire thing.

For me what worked was awesome - what didn't work was horrible. The coconut pirates reminded me somewhat of the minions and the crab sequence bordered on macabre.
