Default 2018 Disney Dining Plan to Include Alcoholic Beverages

**I wasn't sure if this should be in the News section or Dining section so please move it if it's in the wrong place, thank you!**

    This just in this morning.....

Guests will have several new beverage options available in 2018 when they purchase the 2018 Disney Dining Plan along with their Walt Disney World vacation package.

Guests under 21 years of age will be able to choose one non-alcoholic beverage (including specialty beverages where offered). Guests 21 and older will be able to choose either one non-alcoholic beverage (including specialty beverages where offered) or one single-serving mixed cocktail, beer, or wine (where offered) within their meal entitlement.

A single-serving non-alcoholic beverage will include items such as:

    Artisanal Milkshakes
    Fresh Smoothies
    Premium Hot Chocolate
    Soda, Coffee or Tea

A single-serving alcoholic beverage includes items such as:

    Beer or Cider
    Wine or Sangria
    Mixed Drinks and Specialty Cocktails

Most beer, wine, and mixed drink beverages are included, some exceptions will apply. Guests 21 and older must present valid ID to be served alcoholic beverages.

Alcoholic beverages may only be redeemed with a Quick-Service or Table-Service meal entitlement.

I think it is great. Still works out for the dining plan to be a plus for us!

Is this like a cruise where you can elect to not buy the alcohol? Or is this price increase for everyone whether you order alcohol or not? I think you can already get some of those non-alcoholic drinks listed in under the current plan.

The price increase is for all. I thought the same thing, that the non alcoholic drinks (or at least some) were already included. I also think the alcoholic selections will be limited to a certain price point, I don't expect them to allow you to select a $20 glass of wine off the wine menu.

Everyone in my family everyone drinks. The price increase is $6 more per person per day. At Disney the cost of an alcoholic beverage outspends the extra $6. Totally worth it!

With that said.....if you are traveling with someone who is under 21/doesn't drink, I think the extra $6 is not worth it.

So all those 10 year old Disney adults will be paying for alcohol that they can't actually have. Ka-ching!

Oh wait. They can have the Tinkerbell punch with the glow cube. Still Ka-ching.

DDP has never been a value for us. The more they hype it, the more convinced I am that it's a huge money maker for Disney.

If the DDP is not free, it is not for me!

If my trip falls within a free DDP window, I will certainly take advantage of it, but if not, I can book ADRs without it. Sometimes it is a better deal to do it that way anyway.

In all our trips to the parks, we've only used the DDP once. I believe we tried it because it was, supposedly, free during our trip. While I think the alcoholic beverage option is interesting, it won't entice us to try the dining plan again. We just don't eat all that much when we're running around the parks and we'd rather be on a ride than sitting down to a table service meal. We also felt pretty guilty because the desserts we got with both lunch and dinner were usually thrown away...untouched. It was pretty wasteful. The DDP simply doesn't fit with the way we do the parks.
    Nice work, pal.

Just one included drink sure doesn't go very far if they are trying to complete with other types of all inclusive type packages at resorts and cruises these days...
