Default Room Request for "Medical Need"

I am so excited to be taking my mom and my daughter on a "Girls Trip" to WDW in less than 1 month. My mom had a bad accident several years ago that resulted in the lower half of her leg and foot paralyzed. She cannot walk up a flight of stairs. We are booked at Old Key West. I have requested a First Floor room stating for Medical Need. Is there any chance we will not get this request? There is NOT A CHANCE my mom can walk up any stairs and I certainly cannot carry her up. I just don't want to get there and for them to tell us that they can't give us a first floor room. *This resort has no elevators.
Needless worry or room for concern?

You can call the hotel directly and speak with them. They usually try to help

We were just at OKW for ICOT20 and had a similar need. In our case, as DVC members, I talked to Member Services, and explained that stairs were not an option. I was assured by the CM that that request at OKW is not uncommon (given the scarcity of buildings with elevators) and that they have a special procedure for noting it on the reservation (and he had done that for me). I did email Member Services about 2 weeks prior to arrival asking them to verify the request (it was there). Upon arrival, we did have a first floor room. It was actually an accessible room -didn't really need that- but it was on the first floor and very close to a bus stop.

As long as you call reservations and have them note the request, and make sure you tell them it's a medical necessity, you should be just fine. Personally, I'd call back a few days later just to verify that the request includes the "medically necessary" phrase.

Note: you can't actually call the hotel directly. The number listed is actually just a call center. They let you believe you're talking to the hotel but you're not. So "calling the hotel" isn't what you want to do. You want the request noted on your reservation. Call the main reservation number to do that.

And BTW, there are 3 buildings that do have elevators. Buildings 62, 63 & 64 were built after ADA was implemented so elevators were included in the design of those buildings.
