Tokyo Dining?
Thinking about dining here in September. Can anyone tell me about the experience? My DD is a huge sushi foodie but I would like to hear reviews from others before I make a decision. Also, we would be leaving the restaurant around 8 pm or so...how difficult would it be to get a good view of Illuminations from that area??
Been there, done that...CAN'T WAIT...going back!

Kimonos is better for sushi, but not convenient for Illuminations in your timeframe. . Would suggest trying to get a Fastpass for Illuminations.

I haven't eaten at Tokyo Dining, but I can tell you that it will be easy to get a good spot for Illuminations. From Japan, I would recommend watching from Italy or Morocco. September isn't busy except for Food & Wine on the weekends, and many are locals who have seen the show a million times.
Have fun!

For me, Tokyo Dining is a special treat. I enjoy the sushi and many of the dishes the offer. The view of the lake is amazing, and you should be able to leave them and find a decent spot for Illuminations. TD also has what I think is the best service of any restaurant at Disney. Of course, that doesn't matter if you don't care for the food - but I enjoy that, too!

Love Tokyo Dining--always great service and food! Of course, their sushi is very good, but they do have other offerings, including chicken, steak and (cooked) seafood.

We did Tokyo Dining on our last trip and enjoyed it so much we've booked again for this trip. They were very good with my shellfish allergy, the manager came out to ask what I couldn't have then went and talked to the chef. They made miso soup without the seaweed for me.
The staff were all polite and didn't feel rushed at all.

Unless the menu and service has changed since were there about a year ago, we've always found the offerings and service to be excellent. We basically eat there every trip. I lived in Japan off and on for about 2 years...... so I enjoy Tokyo Dining as a little "mental refresher", and a chance to speak Japanese again.
As I remember, if you are looking for "American-ized" sushi, they really don't offer a lot of the complex "fusion"-type rolls and such that tend to dominate many people's thoughts on "good" sushi in the US. It is a bit more like the offerings in Japan; simple, letting the subtle flavors and textures of the individual ingredients dominate, rather than some of the bizarre combinations you too often find in many US places (jalapeno/mayonnaise with prosciutto, avocado, and hamachi anyone ).
They have some nice Nihonshu also. (sake)
UNLIKE restaurants in Japan however.... it is VERY noisy. Really blows the experience for me. Not the tranquil feeling one gets in Japan.
best,
