Default Split Stay- How does it work?

Hey! We are headed to WDW in 2 weeks. My hubby is attending ILTAcon and we'll be at the Yacht Club for 5 nights, then transferring to CS for 2 nights. We've never done a split stay before. Does Disney transfer the luggage? What are the logistics for doing this?

    Thanks!

Yes, you can certainly make arrangements with bell services at Yacht Club, and they will tag your bags arrange to get your luggage moved to your new Disney resort. They can give you an estimated time as to when it should be at the new resort. Then when you get to the new resort, you can stop by bell services at that resort to pick up your bags, or go to your new room and call down to ask for them to be delivered. Someone must be in the room for them to deliver, so they won't just put them in your room for you.

    It works great.

It does work well but give ample time for the move especially with regards to the luggage transfer.

We've done many split stays and the process works well and is very simple. But there are a couple of things to know that will prevent some frustration.

First, as mentioned, your luggage will not arrive at the second resort until after 3pm at the earliest. It's usually there by 4. Disney does all the transfers from/to all the resorts in one massive, coordinated dance, which starts at 1pm. Regardless of when you get your luggage to Bell Services, they won't start their move until 1. So you will not have access to it. Make sure that anything you'll need before evening is removed from your luggage and taken with you.

The other thing that can make things a bit easier is to schedule a time for Bell Services to come to your room and pick up your bags. Do this the evening before either by calling then from your room, or stopping by their desk and setting it up in person. Scheduled pickups take priority. So if you've schedule a pickup for 9am, they will be at your door a couple minutes before 9, regardless of how many other people have called that morning and want Bell Services help.

And obviously, tips are a part of this process - on both ends!

The idea of scheduling a time for bag pick-up is an excellent recommendation. Too many times we've called the morning-of to have someone come to the room, and it can take a long time for them to get there. Or we've walked to the lobby with our bags, only to find a line with 10 families in front of us.

    That's a tip worth remembering!

Thanks for all the great advice! I will definitely be stopping by Bell Services to schedule a time the night before. We always tip...but that is a great reminder. Thanks y'all!
