Unfortunately, your day to pick may fall withing hundreds or even thousands of others 10 day window. This is the biggest problem with the 60+10 FastPass+ reservation window.

That's exactly right. It's to the point where you literally need to be looking at the 3rd/4th/5th/6th day of your Disney resort stay to grab a Slinky Dog or Flight of Passage. 60 days just isn't enough at times. And if you're not staying at a WDW resort, 30 days really isn't enough most of the time. Maybe if/when they open up the Star Wars attractions for fast pass, it'll make Slinky Dog easier. But keep checking back - sometimes you can get lucky with people cancelling.
We had the same issue for our trip earlier this November.... we were able to a get FP+ for everything else in all four parks ..... made rope drop on a Thursday and it was a 26 minute wait .... we timed it ...
Complain to guest services. I did. I did for the same reason you cited. Even at 60 days, its impossible. I was offered a FP but I declined it. In fact, it made me angrier. I didn't want to be pacified; I wanted the ridiculous system changed.
