Default How does the virtual queue system work for ROTR?

We're going in December, and we have two days scheduled at DHS. We haven't been there since before Toy Story Land opened, so we have a LOT of new stuff to check out in this park.

But I'm worried that we might not be able to get on ROTR, because I have no idea how it all works. How do I get to the part in the app where I gain access to the virtual queue? How do I know when it opens up? How fast does it all disappear?

Its too complicated for me. I shouldn't have to take a college level course to get on a ride. I have dismissed it as anything I even want to TRY to ride.

I found some stuff online about it. It doesn't seem too bad, IF you've set up the My Disney Experience app first with your entire party. Then it should show up as an option once you've entered the park, and you have to be the app when the slots open up at 10am and/or 2pm. But it's still a crapshoot, apparently. The slots fill up fast, even though the park is operating at 25% capacity.
