    Question

Has this happened to anyone else?

On Saturday I brought home the Toy Story 3 disk set. When I loaded the #3 disk, my DVD play would not read the disk. So I took it back and exchanged it. When I got home I loaded disk #3 and again it wouldn't read the disk. I attempted to see if perhaps there was some way to navigate to disk #3 from one of the other disks, but I haven't noticed any thing. I guess I'll exchange it again.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

I know they had some trouble earlier with the set but I would try the Disc in another DVD player if possible or just keep returnung them until you get one that works

JPL is right. Return it again. I would even return it and buy a new copy at a different store.

I've looked, but could find no reported glitches with the disc. However, that just means that no one has reported the problem. I could be one of three things.

    1. A manufacturing error. This is why going to a different store to get a new copy may be a good idea. There could have been a problem with the shipment to that store.

    2. Packaging error. The company who puts the DVDs together could have inadvertantly put a Region 2 encoded disc in that batch of DVDs. It's doubtful, but it has happened before.

    3. There is something about the way the menu launches that your DVD player doesn't like, though I can't think of what. When you put the disc in it automatically starts playing a video introduction. So, it shouldn't freak your DVD player out at all. As JPL said, try it on another player and see what happens.

Have you moved the player recently? It's possible the laser's focus could be out of whack. If the player is jostled in a move, that can happen.

When you do get it working, make sure you look for the hidden feature! JPL, have you found it yet?

Actually, I just got the DVD player over the weekend, so yes it has been moved recently. However, it has NO problem with any other disks. I've used several video disks, and a couple audio disks, and they all read fine. Therefore I don't see that it would be a problem with the player, please correct me if I am mistaken.

I suppose I'll try exchanging it again.

Nope. Not the player (it was a long shot anyway). It has to be that disc. Does the store you're buying from have a player there so you can check the disc before you leave the store? It'll save you the trip back.

Okay, when you get it back, on Disk three, go to TS2, then story. Go to Jessie's song. On that menu, hit left and you should highlight a question mark. You'll be in for a very funny surprise.

    Marker, any luck?

No, no luck yet. I'll be exchanging the disk again in the next day or two.

An odd thing happened though. After trying to play the newly exchanged Disk #3, another disk was not behaving properly. It had a distorted area and the buttons would not work on the controller. In the book I noticed a troubleshooting hint that said if the buttons did not work properly, unplug the unit and plug it back in. I did this and the misbehaving disk worked, the buttons worked and the distorted area was gone. I then tried the TS Disk #3 again, and it didn't work as before. And also as before, after attempting to use TS disk #3, other disks had problems that were resolved by unplugging the DVD player.

So whatever is wrong with the #3 disk, it leaving the playing in an unexpected state. And yes, the condition is repeatable.

I don't know what it is, but I'll exchange it again and hope for the best.

I just looked at by Disc three for the extra or Easter Egg as they call it, that is pretty funny. Thanks for telling me!

    Wink

Well, the third time was the charm. I exchanged it again, and this time it works. I can't explain the problem, I only know I'm glad it is resolved.

Glad you got it straightened out Marker. I'm a CM at TDS and I had a guest tell me she was having problems with her disc 3 as well. I don't know if there was a bad batch of them or what? I do know that at one point there were some copies out there with a clip of a different movie on them. So who knows what was going on with the production of those DVD's, but I'm glad it was resolved, that third disc has a lot of great stuff on it!
