Default makeshift beds

anyone have any ideas on what we can used to camp with in the tent, in december. we are trying not to buy airmattresses, bc we have never been happy with them and they don't last either. We've considered the foam cots, however, finding egg crate foam is twice as thick and half the price. Also, the kids suggested just making pallets out of blankets. Whoever has been tent camping that has some creative ideas, I would appreciate some brain storming.

We've always used air mattresses. When we first started camping, we used inexpensive air mattresses and they certainly did not last! When we upgraded our mattresses, we had many, many successful camping trips without an issue.

are you driving? Could you go to Walmart and get eggcrate/memory foam pad? I saw a crate/foam combo at walmart for about $30. That was a double I think

Thermarests! You can get them at REI or Sports Authority or any outdoorsy kind of store. They're kinda of pricey, but worth it. Their size and weight make them great for backpacking, so they'd be easy to pack too.

I have a matress that self inflates. It has valves that you just turn a knob and it inflates. No battery or pump or anything like that. It even has a seperate pillow that inflates. It is not as thick as an air matress but it is really durable and the material it is made of is really thick and would be very hard to puncture. You open the valve and when it is fully inflated you close the valve. When you are done you open the valves and squish the air out and close the valves again. It rolls right up like a sleeping bag. The more I used it the better and quicker it inflated. I have never used it outside but on a hardwood floor. We do fold a couple of blankets up to put on top of it but it would be better than being right on the ground. I think I got it at L.L. Bean.

When we tent camped at Fort Wilderness, we brought a Queen Sized Aerobed for in our tent. It requires power to inflate though, so I made sure to bring an extension cord to plug it into the power on our site. It was durable and didn't give us a problem. Made for a comfy sleep!
