Thank you all for sharing your experiences with me. It makes me feel better as I sit here listening to screaming kids at midnight. We go home tomorrow morning and I can't wait to get out of here.
My husband and I are the parents of a young adult son and we go to WDW as a couple. Maybe we will go to the Swan or Dolphin next time, something a little more "adult". Can anyone suggest a resort geared toward an older crowd?

I had a similiar experience at Pop in 2010. We were "upgraded" to a room in the 60's section right by the kids splash area. It was well past midnight and there were kids screaming like crazy out there. It woke everyone in our room up. I called the front desk multiple times and all security did was drive by and put their finger to their mouth to shoosh them. I found out the next morning that our neighbors had also called the front desk. In my opinion if multiple people are calling, a little more action should be taken.

I did go to the front desk the next morning to see a manager, but they did nothing.

So now I've learned, don't get a room near the pool - even if it's considered an "upgrade".

Depending on your budget, I'd probably recommend Coronado Springs, Yacht Club, Boardwalk, or Wilderness Lodge. Swan is a good for adults as well. Not too many families stay there; it's more of a convention/business hotel. The restaurants at the S&D complex are among the best at WDW, in my opinion. If you have AAA or qualify for special rates, you can get a pretty good rate much of the time. It''s not Disney, though, so you do give up a little bit staying there. However, it's worlds better than the Value resorts.

If you have your own car, and don't mind being a bit outside the Disney bubble, but still on property, look at the Hilton/Waldorf Astoria duplex. The Waldorf, in particular, is VERY "adult" oriented. Rates can be less than $200/night too.

Hope your next trip goes better. I've found that as I've gotten older (and I am NOT old), my tolerance for the Value resorts has gone down exponentially. I used to stay at them all the time when I was around college aged. Now, we are DONE with them, after our last stay at AoA. One night was enough. Never again.

We have stayed at values on numerous occasions, and never had a problem. Actually, I prefer of the family feel and the theming it has over the other resorts, which tend to just be like Marriots to me. I want to feel like I am in Disney. I was not a big fan of the Contemporary, and I actually hated our stay at Saratoga Springs. I do love Port Orleans, but like I said, no real problems with the values. You say a two year old was screaming. As in crying? I would have to defend those parents if the child were crying. Two year olds tend to do that. Who knows if the child were sick or something. Now if they were just outside playing and screaming and yelling, that is rude and I would call the desk and ask them to send someone out to deal with it. I guess if you are just two adults and you like quiet, the values probably aren't a good choice. Go to Saratoga Springs. I never saw another person, and we were so far from the main building, it was ridiculous. Believe it or not, I told them to send me to a value, which they did. I enjoyed it much better. I guess we all have a different perspective of what is a good resort.

If you want a good moderate, try Riverside. I love the alligator bayou section. It's so laid back, peaceful, shaded, just the perfect place to unwind after a long hard day at the park.....

Our one stay at a value resort on our last trip was enough for us to purchase DVC. Pop wasn't that bad, but a huge difference between that and moderates in my opinion.

Agreed! Actually both Port Orleans are really nice. I've stayed at them countless times, (seriously I have lost count!), and never had a problem with the neighbors, buses, and the cast members were always fantastic. My husband and I primarily stay at deluxe resorts now, and we prefer The Grand Floridian, Animal Kingdom Lodge, or the Yacht Club. We've always had wonderful stays at those resorts. There was only one time that I can think of when our neighbors disturbed our sleep at one of thoese resorts. It was at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Our neighbors were early risers, (we are not), and their young son went out on the balcony and yelled, "Good Morning Zebra's! Good Morning Rabbit's!", and so on. It was kinda cute though, and he only did it that one morning, (presumably because his parents told him not to yell).

I have stayed at the value resorts, once as a kid and twice as an adult. 3 strikes you're out! I had a couple of really bad experience there, one of which is so unbelievable I think most people who don't know me would have a hard time believing it. I will never stay at a value again, even if I could get the room crazy cheap. I'm glad that many families are able to enjoy the value resorts, and have a good time there, but that has sadly never been the case for me.

Everyone has different experiences. We stayed at All Star Movies in the past and the only guest-created problems were those who felt entitled to sit outside their rooms and smoke. It was a selfish thing for "adults" to do and I apply a much higher standard to them than I ever would to a child.

If a child was upset or having difficulty sleeping, I consider that something that is potentially going to happen no matter where I go. Nobody wants a small child to cry during the night, but sometimes they do and it can sometimes be very difficult to stop. I'd hesitate before attributing motives and other adjectives to the situation without more knowledge of the details.

Disney should do what they can to help a guest, but when it is out of their power the least they could do is allow you to leave and get a refund for unused time. I don't do a lot of traveling, but many places have let me leave ahead of the end of my stay (when things have not been up to par - possibly seeing it as a way to convince me not to write a scathing review online). I suspect Disney won't do this, but they should. It would be unnoticeable on their annual report.

So sorry to hear this. We enjoyed an adults trip at Coronado Springs last month. It is a pretty spread out resort and felt it was adult friendly. Pool was off a ways so you didn't hear any of that noise. We did have some loud people in the mornings but not overly excessive or beyond a reasonable amount of noise.

Unfortunately it happens more and more places these days. When we visited a very nice, high end hotel in Hawaii a few years ago they oversold and put us in a terrible room (not what I booked at all and had paid extra for) that was in the oldest section of the resort, in the very back away from everything else, in an accesible room which had no place to put our toiletries. The kicker was the room next door had a screaming infant who cried night and day and we could hear everything. We asked to be moved and they moved us the very next day as soon as a room became available. After that everything was fine.

This was probably the biggest reason I did not prefer the value resorts. There were way more smokers outside of their room at Pop than I ever noticed (if at all) at the more "valued" resorts. I thought smoking outside of the rooms were not allowed and they have designated areas for this?

Indeed. It is only allowed in designated areas, but there's not much that they will apparently do about it (or we didn't bend the right ear). For me, Disney underrates the importance of this on guest experience (but I could have confirmation bias).

While nothing at Disney is themed adult only (as in there will always be children somewhere) I have to agree that Port Orleans, especially French Quarter, are great seemingly quiet resorts.

At the same time, any place like Walt Disney World is going to attract families. With families, some will have small children/infants. The younger the human being, the less predictable their behavior becomes and the less responsive to reason they are.

As I write this, I'm sitting on the edge of the bed at the All star Movies Resort nearing 1:00am because some morons two year old is outside screaming at the top of his lungs. This is just one of many horrible experiences I've had here so far.
I saved a long time to take this vacation and it's virtually been ruined by ignorant parents, no air conditioning, bad food and the list goes on.
Well, this has been a lesson learned and next time I'll be back at a moderate. Ugh!!

Can you not get All-Star Movies to move you to a quieter building?

So sorry to hear you are having a bad stay! I would be so angry too. I would go straight to the front desk at 1am and demand a manager. It is not acceptable for another guest to be making so much noise that your sleep is impacted like that. Try and get moved to another resort for the rest of your stay.

My thoughts exactly. I would have called while the child was screaming and asked for a manager to come to the room and see & hear what was going on. Also I would have asked for another room. This way it wouldn’t happen again the next night.

On the other hand maybe you could have opened the door and asked if everything was ok. Maybe the child was sick or couldnt sleep. Atleast the parents would have known it was bothering you and maybe offered an apology.

If it was just a little one being a little one screaming and running up and down the walk way. THEN I would have asked to be moved right away, because you then know its going to be a free for all every night of your stay.. and that's totally not acceptable!!!

Our last lengthy stay at a Value was at Music back in 2004 when there were a bunch of high school girls constantly making noise...and a few were sunning themselves topless by the pool (face down). That was enough for us and have stayed DVC ever since.

I've said the same exact thing while staying in, and soon after in the form of a letter to Disney, at the AllStar Movies. It's the one trip we look back at and wished it could've been better. It was our son's first trip and he loved the Dalmatians, but we adults hated the cramped feeling, the low end amenities, and the horrible bus service. We determined after that trip the moderates are worth the money. Not sure what we're going to do now that we have a family of 5 - mods won't fit us anymore.

I stayed at all star music in 2007 and had a great experience. We were traveling with twins who were 17 months
Worried about busses we planned to leave our hotel an hour before we wanted to get anywhere.
And if we had to stand on a bus we would wait for the next one we didn't want to be standing holding babies and a stroller.

But we had no problems. Planning on staying their fall of 2014 in the family suites. But has it gone downhill since our last visit?

I've spent 2 weeks at ASMusic each year for the last 5 years and I'll be staying again in August 2013. I haven't noticed any problems and I've stayed in either Jazz Inn or Calypso. I don't expect any trouble this year.
