Pin Trading - What and Where Is It?

Scoop Sanderson, the latest “streetmosphere” character to roam through Disney's Magic Kingdom, now offers his insider tips on the popular activity of pin trading. He can be found Sunday through Thursday at 1PM at Exposition Hall located on Main Street, USA.

In addition to offering trading tips, Sanderson hosts games and activities for his “pin pals.” Park admission is required. Guests are advised to check with the Exposition Hall cast members for any schedule updates.

As a part of the Millennium Celebration, the age-old tradition of pin trading was revived in October of 1999 to help the Walt Disney World Resort mark the new century with a spirit of sharing and guest interaction. Pin trading has always been a worldwide phenomenon and with this new program Disney added their special brand of magic to this collectable craze.

Originally scheduled to last for just the 1999-2000 year, pin trading has become a huge hit at Disney Resorts all over the world and even on the World Wide Web. Disney pins feature everything from your favorite characters, theme park attractions, resorts, films, to special event pins and even very limited edition pins available only on the Disney/Ebay Auctions website.

The most exciting aspect of this newest addition at World Disney World isn’t the buying of these little pieces of metal, but the trading. Guests are able to trade pins with designated Disney Cast Members who wear special lanyards around their necks. Each lanyard contains approximately 12 Disney pins and the Cast Members must trade any pin on their lanyard for guest's pin, as long as the guest's pin bears the official Disney trademark on the back*. Cast Members may also refuse to trade for a pin they already have more than one of on their lanyards.

While Cast Members wear lanyards all around the parks and resorts, there are also special pin trading stations located throughout the resort that are the focal points of pin trading.
The locations are:

Magic Kingdom:
Main Street Town Square Pin Cart and Exposition Hall

Epcot:
Main Information Station and World Showcase
(by the American Adventure)

Disney/MGM Studios:
Hollywood Junction Pin Cart and the Sorcerer’s Hat

Animal Kingdom:
Just Inside the Main Gate at Island Mercantile

Downtown Disney:
Disney Pin Traders Complex

Contemporary Resort:

Pin cart and Pin Trading Area

BoardWalk Resort:
Pin Trading Station

When visiting any of these special pin stations, keep your eyes peeled for Supertraders. These are Disney Cast Members that have been designated as special pin traders. Supertraders wear at least 75 Disney pins on a special vest and generally have more rare and unusual pins for trade. These Supertraders also offer special daily seminars on pin trading to help you get started. See times posted at Epcot’s Info Central Station.

Disney also has its own pin trading website. Featuring event information, upcoming pin release dates, and even phone numbers for ordering special pins from Walt Disney World and Disneyland, this website features all the newest information for the pin collector and trader. To visit the Official Disney Pin Trading website click here.

Pin trading is an exciting addition to the Disney brand of fun and is sure to remain in the parks for a long, long time. So make some new “Pin-Pals” and get to trading…
