We're rolling out the Newsreel for January
to cover all the new happenings at the Walt Disney World resort:
>> Guests may now shop and dine along Main
Street USA beginning at 8:00 am on days with a 9:00 am park opening. Individual
rope drops are held at each land entrance at the time of park opening.
>> Epcot has given a look ahead at new features for the 2017 International
Flower & Garden Festival. Festival “firsts” this year will include brand-new
topiaries of Belle and Figment, two new outdoor kitchens (bringing the total to
15) offering up tasty snacks, a “Cars” interactive play garden for kids in honor
of the upcoming film June 2017 release of the Disney•Pixar sequel, “Cars 3.” New
Garden Rocks Dining Packages Will Debut At Epcot International Flower & Garden
Festival – Dining packages will be available on select days at a number of Epcot
restaurants, combining dinner and reserved seating for a performance.

Let the Magic Begin is a new welcome show at the Cinderella Castle Forecourt
Stage. The 5 minute show stars Mickey Mouse and Fairy Godmother who start the
new day at the Magic Kingdom with a little dose of magic. Mickey is joined on
stage by Minnie and an enchanting ensemble including Aladdin, Alice, Chip &
Dale, Belle, Elena, Jasmine, Mary Poppins, Merida, Pluto, Rapunzel, Snow White,
and Tiana. The show is scheduled to start most mornings at 8:55 am on days with
a 9:00 am park open.

>> To kick off the
New Year, Disney Parks & Resorts has confirmed the return of the the Jingle
Bell, Jingle BAM! fireworks show it debuted in 2016 at Disney's Hollywood
Studios. Dates for the 2017 offerings will be announced later in the year.
>> The forthcoming raft ride at Typhoon Lagoon has been renamed prior to
opening. Just beyond the pineapple fields of Crush ‘n’ Gusher awaits an all-new,
family-raft attraction owned by Captain Mary Oceaneer—a sea-faring treasure
hunter whose haul was caught in a rogue typhoon… and scattered across this
tropical paradise years ago. From your 4-person raft, feel a rush of excitement
with family and friends as an aquatic conveyor belt chutes you into action.
Then, hold on tight as you spy precious artifacts collected from all around the
globe.

>> A new multi-story building is planned for
Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort. The plans first became evident with height
balloon tests conduced in September 2016. Guests and Casts spotted construction
height test balloons being used at the resort near the existing Barbados Village
section. Plans appear to have moved forward with the filing of permits on
January 17, 2017 with the South Florida Water Management District, "Application
#: 170117-29 Permit#: 48-00714-P Project Name: Project 88/Caribbean
Beach-Project Acres: 60.58: The Project proposes to construct building, parking
lot and roadway modifications within the project area."

>> Looking to the skies above Disney Springs
may bring a new sight. The Characters in Flight balloon has re-opened with a new
appearance and color palette that fits the new Disney Springs aesthetic.
>> Epcot will commemorate its 35th Anniversary in 2017 with special merchandise
at the park and special historical web features. Further details of the 35th
anniversary commemoration are expected to be announced later in the year.
>> To celebrate Canada's Sesquicentennial on 7/1/16, Epcot is hosting a
trivia activity now until Canada Day. veryone is invited to join in the fun and
answer questions like, “What do Canadians call a one dollar coin? Answer – A
Loonie” and “Who hosts Hockey Night in Canada Coach’s Corner? Answer – Don
Cherry and Ron MacLean” to receive a button.

The Dining scene at the Walt Disney World
resort is constantly serving up new offerings and changes. Here's the dish
on the latest news bites:
>> Disney’s Hollywood Studios has
continued Minnie’s Silver Screen Dine in 2017. The Seasonal Character Meal is
being offered now through March 19th.
>> Dole Whips (or something
presumably very similar) can now be found at a second location at Walt Disney
World outside a theme park. Marketplace Snacks in Disney Springs recently added
Pineapple Soft Serve to their menu priced at $4.19.
>> The Planet
Hollywood Observatory opened on January 27th with Lunch Service. Advanced Dining
Reservations are now available for February 1, 2017 and beyond. The menu
features a two sections currated by celebrity chef Guy Fieri as well as decedent
desserts and milkshakes with oversized toppings.

>> A popular snack has returned to Disney’s
Animal Kingdom after almost a full year hiatus. After leaving the park in
February 2016, Churros have returned after recently being added to the Dino-Bite
Snacks menu in DinoLand U.S.A. The sweet treat is priced at $4.29 and comes with
a side of chocolate dipping sauce.
>> Disney Springs has announced
opening details for Paddlefish. Paddlefish will open February 4th following a
multimillion-dollar transformation and a seafood-centric menu that includes a
few guest favorites from the former Fulton’s Crab House. he iconic paddleboat at
Disney Springs has been reimagined into a modern yacht experience by Levy
Restaurants, with clean lines, crisp designs, refined woods and a sophisticated
color pallet of blues and grays. The new menu will feature delectable Maine
lobster, King and Snow crabs and a selection of fresh fish including sea bass,
catfish and salmon. Fan favorites and classic dishes from Fulton’s Crab House
remain, such as Lobster Corn Dogs and crab legs. Cocktails are inspired by
classic turn-of-the-century American cocktails, and an expansive wine list
includes both Old and New World wines. Paddlefish will be open daily for lunch
and dinner, as well as Sunday brunch.

visiting Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort for the day can purchase
a Disney Dine-on-the-Go one-day, quick-service offering that includes one lunch
quick-service entrée and one non-alcoholic beverage that’s good until 4 p.m.,
and one dinner quick-service entrée and one non-alcoholic beverage that’s good
after 4 p.m. (Dessert is not included). Guests can purchase Disney
Dine-on-the-Go at Magic Kingdom Park Vacation Planning booths. Participating
restaurant locations include Casey’s Corner, Columbia Harbour House, Cosmic
Ray’s Starlight Café, Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe and Pinocchio Village
Haus. Price is $29.00 {Ages 10 and up}, and $12.00 for ages 3 to 9.
>> A
replacement for the Margarita Kiosk in Epcot’s Mexico pavilion has been
officially announced. Choza Tequila is slated to open in Early 2017 and offer
“refreshing hand-crafted margaritas and classic Mexican cuisine like tacos,
empanadas, chips and fresh guacamole”. The new kiosk is presumably being built
behind the construction walls currently to the left of the pyramid structure in
the pavilion.
>> Casey's Corner has announced a new specialty "hot dog of
the month" and has added croissant donuts to its dessert menu.
