Family Spectacle of
350 miles of lights, 800,000 Watts of power and 5 million bulbs comprise the
beauty and majesty of one of Disney’s most popular holiday events. What
began as a family tradition in the mid-1980s in Little Rock, Ark., has
blossomed into a new holiday tradition for many guests to the Disney-MGM
Studios at Walt Disney World Resort. Set amid the “homes” of Residential
Street in MGM Studios, the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights wows crowds
with its dazzling excess in a familiar setting. The annual holiday
spectacular opens tonight with a special preview for Annual Pass holders and
runs through January 5th. The spectacle is lit nightly at 6 p.m.

Icon In For a Major Change
WESH TV2 in Orlando has reported that by February 2005, Spaceship Earth,
EPCOT’s icon and centerpiece attraction will be closed for a major overhaul.
Disney plans to take the ride offline for two years to create a whole new
attraction called “Time Racers,” set to debut in 2007. This is no cosmetic
facelift, but a complete redesign of the ride contained within the geodesic
sphere that is so easily recognizable. Insiders believe that that the new
ride will be a “moving theater type ride” that will be able to handle 2,400
guests per hour. Disney has declined to comment on the documents WESH
uncovered, stating that they do not discuss attractions until they are
formally announced. A former Imagineer, however, believes that Disney will
incorporate some of the cutting-edge technology currently employed at Tokyo
DisneySea. There is no information on the ride concept at this time.

Journey Into Imagination with Figment! Rehab
After its debut in May and an 8 million dollar rehab, Journey into
Imagination with Figment! is going down for rehab again. The attraction will
be closed from December 1 - December 7th, 2002. During this time work will
take place to make some minor tweaks and adjustments due to the last rehab.
The ride is scheduled to reopen on December 8th.
Tower of Terror Update
to debut in January 2003, "Tower 4" (as the new version of this classic ride
is called) will involve a number of new drop sequences. They will be
randomized so you won't know which one you're going to experience. Also to
be added are some yet to be revealed special effects. There will be no
changes to the exterior of the building.
In just 3 days, the mystery will be revealed and INTERCOTees all over the
world will know the answer to the question... "What is GIFAPP?" Till then,
join in the fun speculating on our discussion boards.
