Any word on the resort being built across the lake from Pop Century? I had heard it was to be called Turn of the Century, with the same theming. But I can't find any info.
it was supposed to represent the beginning decades of the century but still dormant.
diff rumours, ranging from they were waiting til business picked up to finish it, to they were gonna make it into family suites like at Allstars.
hope something happens soon
It is part of Pop Century. It is the Legendary Years half of the century, from 1900-1940s. The current portion of Pop Century is the Classic Years. You can google the name and come up with a few photos and some information.
According to recent rumours it will be completed over the next couple of years and will include Family suites like at the All-Stars. I believe the tentative opening date is Late 2008 or Early 2009.
They halted construction when travel took its downward swing after 9/11. Now that it is near impossible to get a reservation at a Value Resort, I hope they get it finished soon. 2008 sounds pretty quick to me, though.
hope they finish it soon...but will it still b the Legendary Years?
There were some rumours for a while that the new section might include a number of suites when it finally gets built. I haven't heard anything more on this in a while though.
Suites at the POP would be great!! Will they have their own food court and pools and such?? That just seems like a far way to walk to the food court.
I belive it will be a mirror of the current resort so it will include a food court. Not only would it be a long walk but the current food court would not be able to handle the added volume.
The main building for that section is already built and has the large 00 to 40 numbers along the outside similar to the 50 to 90 numbers at the classic years main hall.
I took several pics of that side from our balcony in the 70's building that faced hourglass lake. I also walked across the bridge to that side of the resort (it was fenced off and lined with planters) and got a close-up look.
What is the Pop Century Resort?
Announced in December 1999, the Pop Century Resort is Disney's newest value accommodation resort. It is located near the Disney MGM-Studios at Osceola Parkway and Century Way and encompasses 177 acres. Once fully completed with both Classic Years and Legendary Years, the resort will have 5,760 rooms, 20 (4 story) buildings, 6 pools and 8 courtyards.
Phase I, the Classic Years, opened on December 14, 2003. Reservations were accepted beginning April 22, 2003.
Phase II will be the Legendary Years 1900s-40s and will also have 2,880 rooms, but there is no projected opening date for this section of the resort.
The Classic Years area has the Classic Hall and the Legendary Years area will contain the Legendary Hall. Both Classic Hall and Legendary Hall will feature: Check-in lobby, Food court with different venues offering dine-in and take-out, Merchandise location, Game arcade (Fast Forward), and an exterior waiting area for bus service to and from the attractions.
Each of the two phases will feature 3 pools and one playground. The Classic Years has a Bowling Pin Pool near the 1950's buildings, the Hippy Dippy Pool near the 1960's buildings and a Computer pool near the 1980's buildings. The Legendary Years pools will be shaped like a crossword puzzle, a soda bottle, and a highway sign.
The original projected opening dates (as of August 2001) were:
1950s - March 8, 2002
1960s - March 8, 2002
1970s - May 5, 2002
1980s - August 18, 2002
1990s - August 18, 2002
1940s - November 29, 2002

and if they do complete it soon, mayb that will mean more discounts available:thumbsup:
