It was loaded with time fillers, guest stars, group performances, Simon tributes, and yet somehow I found it all fairly entertaining. The Idol group has some rehearsal time in store before they can take the show on the road. Lots of missed steps, and it was cringeworthy (but sweet and funny) to watch them all perform together. Paula was back and having too much fun. Good to see her. Guests included Alice Cooper (really? Yes), Hall and Oates, Michael McDonald, Bret Michaels (singing with Casey, pretty well considering), Christina Aguilera, Alannis Morrisette... I know I'm missing some. All the past idols reunited on stage (except David Cook, who had a prior charity commitment). But it was less painful than most of the results shows. I actually enjoyed it.
I'm not really surprised that Lee won. Reality shows tend to follow a storyline, even unscripted ones. Crystal's story reached climax and leveled off early (though she was in top form on her last performances). Lee's was peaking at the right time. Everyone loves a good story. Lee was the hero of this one. Plus, I usually go for the one who doesn't win. I was in Crystal's corner.
I skipped the show except the very end. That Joe Cocker segment was beyond awkward. He obviously needs more than a little help from his friends.
Anyway, I'm glad Lee won but you know in the end he's still pretty rough. He's going to need a lot of polish before he's ready for the big time.
I thought Crystal was funny in the finale. She was clearly trying to calm Lee down at the end there. He looked like he was hyperventilating and about to croak!
I really enjoyed this year's finale more than any other year. Bret Michaels surprising everyone and singing with Casey was just fantastic! The show as a whole was well done. Lee winning just made it perfect - though we weren't in his corner completely until the last few weeks. This is the first year I have actually considered getting tickets for the concert. Congrats Lee!
I would have to say I thought last night was the best Idol finale ever! I think they had a really good mix of stars, even though some of them are way past their prime. I didn't hear them say Orianthi's name- (did they?????) we love her around here! I was SO glad to see Bret come on stage and thought he did well considering all he's been through! I do have to say, though, that I am glad it went out with a bang, because it was more than likely the last good episode of Idol. Simon IS the show.
Anyone else think that Janet Jackson sounded EXACTLY like Michael?
I was thinking the exact same thing! If I closed my eyes you could have fooled me. It was a little spooky and sad to think that it was really him.
On a side note, as I type this I am watching the Cosby show on TV Land, and it is the episode where grandpa gets tickets to a Michael Jackson concert, making this topic all the more eerie.
We watched it last night from the DVR and with fast forwarding through the commericals and a lot of the yaking it took us just a little over an hour to watch it.
Although not all of the performances were great we found this to be overall the most entertaining finale Idol has had.
I watched the season sporadically. I found the judging to be predictable...I knew exactly what each judge would say to each contestant, because it was pretty much the same thing every time. "pitchy, I love your clothes, you didn't make the song your own, that was horrible" right down the line. That being said, I found myself falling asleep every time Lee sang. I didn't expect him to make it to the finals. Even at the end, I find him to have very little personality, although he seems like a nice guy.
I've been disappointed with these kind of results before. I'm still in shock by the chicken catcher winning America's Got Talent this past season. I loved Barbara Padilla, and I'm by no means an opera fan. But I would pay to see her.
Oh, and we watched the Michael Jackson episode of the Cosby Show last night too! It was eerie, as was listening to Janet sing. We also remarked that she sounded so much like him, which confused my DS7 to no end.
