    Default Anyone been caught?

I've seen a lot of videos on Youtube or other sites on the internet displaying videos on Disney attractions. I know that photography of any kind is forbidden on some attractions at the parks. I would like to know if anyone has gotten caught taping or seen anyone get caught by a CM?

I don't recall the incident, but we were on Its a Small World, and the people in the boat ahead of us had its camera taken away.

Just a warning before the thread gets going - we do not discuss ways to "beat the system" on Intercot. Most attractions do allow taping, so it's no big deal. Some do not. If you want to tell of a ride where you thought you could tape, but were instructed otherwise (like me on RNRC) that's fine, but if any posts come up about trying to tape when you knew it wasn't allowed those will be deleted. Thanks!!! Now, back to your thread...

I was riding on HM one time and the ride was stopped twice with announcements that flash photography wasn't permitted. I assumed that the person(s) didn't stop the first time that they were asked, and we were close to the end of the ride so I don't know if a third announcement was or had to be made. I also was curious to see if they would have spoken to them directly after the ride, but I didn't actually see it. That is the closest that I have come!

Most attractions that don't allow videotaping or photography will make an announcement or have signs posted. I did accidentally take a picture using the flash in HM once (you are allowed to take pics, just not use the flash) - I thought I had turned the flash off. There was an announcement made after I did that and to this day, my family won't let me hear the end of it!

I'm not sure if Pirates allows it or not- I thought not- but people were snapping like crazy in there and it was really bothering me at one point, almost taking away from my ride experience. I say almost because nothing is going to ruin my good pirate time.

But if people are taping or taking flash pictures where they are not allowed (I mean routinely, not one accidental flash- Kathy, you naughty girl ) I sure hope they get nabbed.

Just after POTC reopened, we were in the middle of a boat with a family from another country in the front. The Dad had a videocamera with a viewing screen and that was incredibly bright and, even more annoying, he was moving all over the seat, very distracting. Added to this was a teenage boy in the group who was trigger happy with his flash camera. It was our first ride since the refurb, and the rest of the boat was not happy ( I thought there was going to be a plank-walking ) They made the announcement, and still it continued. Others around us were telling the pair to knock it off, all with no response. The dad said something in French about rude Americans and told the boy to keep taking photos if he wanted, so I piped up and told him in French to knock it off - I figured if he understood enough to tell the boy not to pay attention, he KNEW what he was doing was wrong . He was suitably embarrassed, but by that time, we were clsoe to the end, so DD and I got back in line and tried again

I was unaware that you could not video tape Its A Small World. I taped it about 7 or 8 years ago on my dads last trip to DIsney. I really feel bad because I had no clue that I was not suppose to do this. Oh well to late now. I quess I will pay more attention on our next trip.

In The Great Movie Ride, the couple just in front of us were taping with a camera light on. They were allowed to continue taping but only when they turned off the light. It seemed to be mostly about lighting a dark area that might have ruined the effect for other riders.

The important thing seems to be to listen carefully to the announcement. If they say no flash photography then it means that and no camera light but you can use a camera in the attraction (no light). If they say no videotaping or photography then nothing is allowed. The announcement is always made.

You are not allowed to tape:
    Carousel of Progress
    Ellen's Energy Adventure.
Those are the only 2 I know of for sure. We were called out once in CoP. The CM did not make an announcement about videotaping, only pictures. We did not have any external lighting. The "Voice of God" came on at one point but no one understood what they said because the did not turn the ride sound down. It basically sounded like the adults in the Charlie Brown cartoons. "Wah wah wah wah..." Well about a minute later they turn the lights on, shut off the sound and a CM actually YELLED at us. "TURN THE VIDEO CAMERA OFF NOW!" It was pretty embarrassing.

PoTC is especially bad for people taking flash pictures. I was in a boat once where one person took a flash picture and then the rest of the boat started taking pictures too. There were about 10 flashes going off at once on one ride. I've never heard an announcement.

I didn't know you couldn't video on It's A Small World. I've got "forbidden footage" of that ride myself, but only because I thought it was ok. Can anyone clarify this? I've never seen any signs or heard announcements about no video taping at IASW.

As for something that definitely cannot be taped, the new Finding Nemo The Musical at AK cannot be taped. I've never tried to tape it because the announcements before the show clearly say not to. However, both times that I have seen the show, people have tried to tape it. The CM's sit on steps in the aisles during the show and they watch for that very thing. I have seen them walk over to guests that were taping and shine their flashlight on them to get them to turn off their video cameras. Even with all of that camera enforcement going on, you can unfortunately see who broke the rules because there is video of Finding Nemo The Musical on You Tube.

For the most part, it's not taping, it's external video lighting. There's one that says no video of any kind but for the life of me, I can't think of which one.

Our rule is ask before you tape. We were told we could tape in its a small world so long as our video camera did not have a spotlight. We also had permission to tape HOP again so long as there were no bright lights on the video camera. If you are unsure just ask before you enter the attraction....

Wow... and i felt bad about my DD2 turning her tinkerbell wand on right at the top of the drop on POTC. It was a flashing green light, actually, was kind of cool was like a green strobe light going off. I managed to get it turned off by the bottom, but definately heard Homer Simpson say DOH!

On my first trip I went to The Festival of the Lion King, and I swear, EVERYONE took out their camera and there was almost constant flashing. It was so distracting to me in the audience, I can only imagine how annoying it was to the performers. It was almost blinding! There were no announcements during the show, but before the show there was a very repetative "no flash photography" message. I doubt it could have been clearer. Anyway, the flashing completely ruined the show for me, which is a bummer because it was the first time I'd ever been to it.

I am pretty certain there was an announcement on POTC about flash photography yet people kept taking flash pictures. I have to say it was annoying for those of us trying to enjoy the ride but I never saw a cast member say anything to anyone.

I will be taking my video camera with me only to use when allowed on the rides. However it is a new camcorder that does not have a viewfinder, you can only view thru the screen that comes out the side. Will this be a problem? If I cant have the screen open I cannot see what I am taping. Of course if it annoys others I will close it & stop taping.

I got "yelled" at on POTC in 05. We had just gotten our video camera and I thought that it would be cool to tape the ride. Apparently the CM announced no taping, but I did not hear. Then he said it louder and still I didn't hear. I was concerned with getting good video. DH and DD said "He said stop tapping" I was embarassed . I truly did not realize. I didn't mean to get in trouble at Disney.

Any of the thrill rides, where a camera that comes loose is a serious liability, they won't allow taping or pictures (RNRC, TOT, etc.).

The shows are also no-no's. During opening week at EPCOT, my Dad started taping "American Adventure" right after the announcement. He had CM approach about a third of the way through the show and tell him to shut it down. He was so focused on getting the camera ready, he never heard the announcement. We give him grief to this day.

I've taken on ride footage of EE, BTMRR, Matterhorn, SM. Because of one thing, I ask permission from a CM first. It's the easiest thing to do.
