Thanks, Karen, though I certainly haven't felt too terrific with trying to hit the forecast with Fay.

Right now, my best guess is you'll be fine. Definitely fine for your flight in. We'll just have to wait and see what these tropical waves do as to how wet you vacation could potentially be.

Thanks for tracking this for us! I'm reading it daily now our trip is fast approaching.
When you say cooler temperatures for after the 9th of Sept, how cool? Pants and long sleeves?
Or will shorts still be ok. I may have to rethink my packing.

    Default Weather at WDW?

We are leaving in two days (WOOHOO!!!) and wondered how is the weather in WDW? It has been raining herein AL and just wondered about packing weather proof items.

Are the parks running full swing?

Oh, no, nothing like long sleeve weather. I realize up in Canada you can actually get cold fronts in September, but a cool front for FL in September would be highs in the low 80s and lows in the mid to upper 60s. Right now, though, that's simply a possibility and not even a probability yet.

Everything is fine. Check post #1 for the full forecast, but the parks are all running normally. There will be scattered thunderstorms pretty much every afternoon so have a poncho to be prepared for that. And keep an eye on Gustav.

September 2-8 looks pretty normal with highs around 90 and scattered afternoon thunderstorms. A very deep trough is still showing up in the September 9-10 time frame with a cool front approaching WDW on September 11. So, while Sept 9-10 would as the previous days, we're still looking at a potential cool down (low to mid 80s for highs) in mid-September. Too early to call right now, though.
Let me first say I've been reading your posts/updates with much interest, Strmchsr. Thanks for all your efforts.

Now a question related to the trough (or potential trough) - how does that bode for weather in terms of tropical storm liklihood and/or the rainfall potential, or does that have any impact at all on that aspect?

Not necessarily asking what you think the weather will be like in mid-Sept (we'll be there Sept 13-22), but if there was a trough that stayed there for a while, what kind of impact does that usually have on the weather patterns?

A trough over an area wouldn't have any impact on tropical storm formation, though it can have an impact in steering any kind of tropical system. A trough can mean higher rainfall potential because troughs are generally conveyors of fronts. If a ridge was built up over the eastern US any fronts would be carried into Canada, but a trough allows them to travel southward.

So, potential impact (and, mid September is still a LONG way off in weather terms) is cooler, wetter weather. There's been a trough over the east coast of the US almost all summer, which is partly why WDW has been a little bit wetter and slightly cooler than normal. Because FL is so far south the cooler air would moderate quite a bit before arriving at WDW so when I say "cooler" I'm not talking highs in the 50s, but highs in the low to mid 80s.

Thanks! I've always found it fascinating that we can know so much about weather and do a decent job of predicting what will happen despite it's inherently unpredictable nature.

Today here about 30 minutes from WDW, it is about 93 degrees with alot of humidity making it feel like 102 today, the weather guy said! Typically Florida is still very warm in September and a very busy time for storms, be it tropical storms/hurricanes or just your everyday thunder storms.

I don't know about you, Chris, but I'm about ready to do something I have never thought about in my life, move north. We are certainly making up for last year, aren't we? I'm not sure how many more of these storms I can take. Not getting a lot of sleep in the last week or so.

There are definitely times (i.e. summer and tropical storms) when I miss living in upstate New York. However, the weather down here is MUCH more interesting.

Man what a crazy couple weeks it has been and looks to be coming up.

I know it's a bit selfish to be even thinking about this, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for some good weather during my trip that starts in just over two weeks.

Believe me, though, first and foremost in my thoughts right now is the safety of all those in the path of Gustav and perhaps soon to be Hannah (please let this one turn out back out to the atlantic!).

Sending my thoughts and prayers that the damage and impact of both are minimal.

Gosh this time of year gets me all nervous. We're leaving on the 8th and hoping Hannah makes a turn and heads out of the way. I was hoping our trip would be right in the middle of Gustav and Hannah but it sounds like that might not be the case. I'll keep checking this thread for updates. Thanks Chris for your hard work!
