As of last month, The Beatles' songs were not available for download from any major online music stores. Here is an article with more information.

I think your best (and perhaps only legal?) option is to buy their CDs and rip them to your computer via iTunes. That is what I have done.

I didn't read the linked article, but I know that Apple Records and Apple computers were tied up in a law suit for a while. I do believe that sometime in the near future the songs will be available for download, but they currently aren't.

    Default $0.99 not enough.

This is DH writing in this thread.

Well, besides the whole Apple vs Apple fight, I heard on the radio that the Beatles (alive and the estates) feel that $0.99 is not enough for their songs. One of the options that they are thinking about is selling them through their own website. Is was only recently that you were allowed to copy the album artwork.

IMOP, I don't get it either way. I mean the Beatles catalogue has been on CD for years. You can get wonderful greatest hits CDs if you want. But, if you want a song or two you should be able to get it.

This is about money, and how the Beatles can make the most money on this deal. They have just announced that The Beatles will have their own version of Rock Band coming out in Sept. complete with Beatle instruments.

Christmas list alert. I want Paul's Hofner vioin bass. I wanna play the opening bass line to Day Tripper.

So, this deal sounds a LOOONG way off. Until then we are stuck with buying the CDs

They really should have a multi-tier price system, like $1.49 for 'Strawberry Fields', and $ .59 for 'Wild Honey Pie'.

But seriously, I thought there were other owners of the Beatles' catalogue, like Michael Jackson (unless he sold it off for attorney fees). If they have it back, that's great!

    Default MJ and the Beatles

    DH here again.

MJ sold the rights off a few years back to Sony. But that is publisishing rights, which has more to do with being covered by others and use in movies etc. What is at stake here is royalties, and how the songs are sold. The Beatles have always been protective of thier music. This was the reason for the infamous "butcher" cover in 1966. This is a whole new realm for them.

BTW, AC/DC and Garth Brooks both have also refused to be on itunes, so, the Beatles are not the only holdouts.
