Default arriving to your resort late in the day-

We will be arriving at POR probably sometime between 5-7 pm (we're driving from NY) on a Sat.
    Is there really any difference?
Should I be worried that I won't get a room I requested? ( I know, I might not get it anyway. nothing is guaronteed!)
Is check in generally busier at night?
What to do so late at night, after we get settled?
    Thank you, this site rocks!!!!!

I've arrived at a variety of times from early morning to late evening and have not felt affected by the room location I was assigned.

When I arrive early in the evening like you are, I would generally have a nice, relaxed dinner and maybe visit another resort or Downtown Disney before getting unpacked and into bed.

I used to think it mattered and used to try to check in as early as possible every trip. But with working around school schedules, having babies and unpreditable travel, etc. we've arrived at a variety of times and to be honest, our requests have always been honored. Sure, we've run into a room where the air conditioning didn't work and one time, when checking in late at the BC we "thought" the room we were assigned was less than ideal. But the bellman assured us, that no, we would love our room. (it overlooked the hotel entry) And he was right..the room was HUGE, more like a suite and we paid for standard.

Honestly, I don't think it matters. If you have any preferences (location, etc.) make sure they are listed on your reservation. And remember, a room at WDW is better than a room anywhere else...except for maybe home! But then, when I'm at WDW I AM home!

We have also checked in late at times and have never had any problems at all. Once we checked in at 2AM. That was actually very nice because no one was there to check in. I am sure you will have no problems at all and if you do just call the front desk. WDW is very eager to help with any problems. Enjoy your vacation.

I would most definitely take the boat over to DTD for dinner and some shopping. That is one of our family's favorite activities on arrival day. For adults, it is always relaxing to have a drink at Muddy Waters by the pool. I am not sure if they are still doing it, but at one time they were doing campfire songs with smores kits for purchase at 7pm. There is also a performer in the lounge near the lobby that preforms in the evenings. Have fun, we will be there in 6 days!
