Why is Airfare so High???

I cannot for the life of me find a good deal from Chicago or Milwaukee to LAX or Long Beach. For any time! Why did air go so high to CA? Does anyone know any good deals? I am open on dates.

In the past we enjoyed flying Jet Blue to Long Beach- made the flight easier to have the TV service with the kids. Usually we paid $99 to $120 each way. This year, the lowest I can find is $194 each way- and that is the lowest. We'd love to visit Disneyland again soon.

I just read an article the other day that the price of domestic tickets has gone up between 5-20% in the last 30 days ... like everyone, airlines are feeling the economic downfall presently, raising prices to keep afloat is their only hope. I deal with this EVERY day ... it's even worse for some routes!
