I won't watch next season without Simon. In many ways he makes the show for me. I don't even like watching the auditions when he isn't there.

So far the General with his "Pants on the Ground" song has saved this boring season. I was cracking up and it's stuck in my head now. Pants on the ground, lookin like a foooooll with your pants on the ground!

I loved Pants man!! This is my favorite part watching them in the beginning. Loved the black girl with the blonde hair and the kid who had a sick mom (church singer)

Oh man, he was great! That song is my husband's new mantra (he is not a fan of the "pants on the ground" style!)

The General rules! He already has a fan club on Facebook.

As for AI...hopefully the departure of Simon will put and end to what has become a glorified karaoke night.

    Cool

Wow ... last night's episode was ... really boring. Shockingly boring, I think I'd say.

Filled with hokey, un-funny idiots making fools of themselves, more uncomfortable moments, and a very, very slim few with genuine talent.

It just wasn't good for me, dawg. Hundred million billion thirty thousand percent no.

Is America running out of talent? This season really is terrible. In past seasons you come across some voice that just so beautiful, but this year, I have not heard it yet.

All it is now is who can make themselves look like the biggest idiot in America.

Oh...American Idol has started? For the first time ever with this show, it doesn't bother me in the least that I missed last night.

I think I'm done, and Pants on the Ground is responsible. I just didn't like how that was pushed on us for no reason other than to increase ratings and get people talking. I understand that's the point, but I found the whole thing really annoying.

I have to agree that last night's show was ho-hum. I even fell asleep before the end (granted I worked late so was watching the recording at 11:30, but it was so uninspiring that I didn't even bother to go back and see what I had missed).

Mel, are you still considering watching the show once they get to Hollywood? If this is Simon's last season (which might have been the reason he announced it already--to increase the ratings), I still want to see him dish it out to the competitors. As for next season, I think I'm probably done too.

Hmmm, Not sure what you mean by "pushed on us" -as you said the point of this part of the show is to get people talking, whether its good or bad. They let him through because he was old just because they knew he had pop culture phenom potential. They let through an "old" person almost every year in addition to your normal run of the mill bad singers. In the end its the public who decides whether there's any entertainment value and let them stick around (William Hung effect). There have been plenty of bad singers who are forgotten about, but, yea, this guy has people talking and he's living out his 15 minutes of fame. Heck even the Vikings sang the song after their win. I thought the guy was hilarious but I also think he's awesome. They put these people on every year no matter what, which is why I said earlier that I get bored with this part of the season now... but hey, at least he kinda has a message.... Get your pants off the ground!

Eh, I know what Mel means, though. I'll admit I found Pants on the Ground Guy funny, but there is something so .... manufactured feeling about the entire thing.

It's like I can't be certain that Fox didn't come up with the bit and then hire an actor to pull it off ... and I get what you mean about the public deciding whether it's funny or not but again sometimes I feel like the networks create faux hype around these things just to get people talking.

Remember that when you're on the Internet you don't really know who is on the other end and, working in interactive marketing and PR, I can tell you that companies can and do have plants on the 'Net to start these "viral" campaigns.

And my opinion is it should be with people who are eligible. He's not, the song is annoying (IMO, but I'm not saying I don't agree with the premise), and therefore I'm done. I was kinda done anyway.

Beth, if there's a lot of buzz about some contestants, I may watch. And I probably will watch towards the end just for Simon.

The whole show is manufactured. I've read plenty of stories of singers, really really good singers, who aren't put through in the pre-judge rounds but who watch terrible singers pushed through because they have a crazy story or wore a goofy outfit. Believe me, there's a lot I despise about American Idol as much as I love it.
Mel I get what your saying but they break their own rules all the time, so I guess it just doesn't bother me. You're gonna tell me they didn't know how much of a rap sheet that SkeeBoSki guy had before that episode went to air? Of course, but it gets them in the news. The show is very shameless in that way... par for the course with the Idol machine at this point.
