I have only stayed in the BC not the BW. But since I was just there 10/4 with mom and she was in a wheelchair, I feel I can offer my experience. The BC was perfect! Since I was pushing mom in the wheelchair, that makes me the ECV. The concrete was nicer at BC than the YC. Smoother to push on. There was a big hill to EPCOT, but once I learned we could take the walkway under the bridge, the hill was no prob. Coming from BW it seemed like a longer walk to EPCOT and the bridge had an incline to it. There was still the biggest hill in all of WDW after you entered the Intl. Gateway. Still it was a simple stroll to EPCOT. The water taxis made it easy to get to HS (MGM). They did take longer, but were enjoyable rides. The H/C rooms allow plenty of room for maneuvering and parking a W/C or ECV. I Don't think you would go wrong with either. If you want more night life at your hotel, choose the BW. If you want a quieter night stroll, choose the BC. Just my opinion though. I'm sure others will toss their 2 cents in.

Personally I'd go with the BC. The pool is an attraction in itself. The walk to Epcot is great too. the BW doesn't really appeal to me. I like a quieter resort and the hustle and bustle of the Boardwalk would be a drawback for me.

I've stayed at both and recommend the BC over the BW for a couple of reasons. One is convenience for a party who wishes to limit their walking. We stayed in a room near the quiet pool and were able to exit our room from there and be all that much closer to Epcot--for a similarly situated room at the Boardwalk you have to backtrack to the lobby. Also, my family felt that the fact that BW has no quickservice food spot within the hotel to be an inconvenience. There is no place that you can get a quick sandwich or bowl of cereal and juice without going outside. The BC marketplace is incredibly convenient in that respect.

BC.
Boardwalk is difficult to navigate. Its layout is sort of bizarre. For example, from the "boardwalk" level, the lobby of the hotel is up a story, you have to climb a flight of steps to get up there. Trying to find an elevator...good luck! Signage is sparse, and then when you do find the elevator, it's way off in a corner, so you end up doing much more walking at the BW.
BC is great. More compact, like WL. You can easily request a HA room near one of the elevator banks, and that way you'll be closer to the lobby as well. The BC marketplace has some good quick food options and the sit down restaurants are quite good as well. Walk to Epcot is 5 min and very easy.
Plus, your child will LOVE Stormalong Bay!!!
